“Came here via arranged car from Satoyama Villa for the day. Masashi-san, the service manager and sommelier warmly welcomed us to our room, 203 that had a fireplace and was very spacious and comfortably heated. We had sake tasting and Masashi-san carefully explained all the different types of sake from Miwatari and it was very interesting and we learn what is Junmai. We even got to try Junmai daiginjou which was made with three different rice and had incredible flavor. After that we had barbecue for lunch and all the ingredients were locally sourced and carefully prepared. Hot sake was also prepared to complement the food which was incredible in the cold. Despite the coldness, the staff who took care of us were all smiles so we felt grateful. After that, we tried onsens. Onsens here are a little special and not as hot as i’m used to. I actually like this better since i’m not being burnt haha. Spacious bath and Deep bath is highly recommended. After that we had dinner and was again warmly served. We had the omotenashi meal and all the dishes were incredible. I have never eaten bear meat before so it was interesting. Overall, very satisfied with the full day arrangement. I highly recommend people to come here even though it may be difficult. Staff english was very good so you will be well taken care of and winter period has many delicious fish incorporated into the meal.”

“One of the best accommodation decisions I’ve made! I came to see a friend in Karuizawa, and thought I’d stay a night. Honestly, I’d stay longer if finances allowed. First of all, what made a strong impression was the staffs. Each and every one of them were friendly, approachable and, most importantly, genuine. This is what I found sometimes lack in some onsen ryokans. What set this ryokan apart is also its spectacular location - a short walk away from the beautiful waterfall and a hiking trail if you feel up to the challenge. I chose to include dinner and was blown away by the 11-course set menu. The ingredients needed little to help them shine and the chefs did just enough to bring them into the spotlight. Loved every single dish I had that evening. Onsen was lovely and the meditation room next to it was cherry on top! All the rooms had different themes to them, corresponding to I presume different stones and elements. A wonderful concept well executed. Will visit again soon :)”
