“A fantastic hotel for a quiet spa retreat or hiking destination with the family. This is a family hotel. The staff is super friendly and helps you where they can to make this experience something to remember. On Easter they organised an egg hunt for the kids and every one got a big bag full of Easter treats. The owners were always there and made everyone welcome. It is obvious how comfortable people feel there based on returning customers we talked to. The family rooms are great with a gorgeous bathroom and great views on the Schwarzwald. The parents sleeping room is super spacious with a walk in cupboard. Excellent WiFi and plugs everywhere where you want them. Obviously, someone planned this well before it was built. There are games rooms (ping pong, flipper and other arcades), PlayStation room and a cinema room for the kids. A bar for the parents and of course the great pool with indoor and outdoor pools. There is also a big sauna area but we did not feel comfortable with being naked so did not use it with the kids. But it looked like someone with less inhibition could find plenty ways to relax in all the different saunas and steam rooms. The beauty treatments were not up to standard of the rest of the hotel according to my wife but our gut feeling was that that particular staff was not the usual one. The food is outstanding. The chef found the perfect way to combine buffet (high quality) and plated courses to give you a great experience. The desserts are always great and the cheese selection was a highlight every evening. The wine collection is focused on German wines from the area with very good choices. Breakfast is similarly impressive with plenty of choice. The lunch is more simple but exactly right to leave space for the expansive dinner. Finally, the Elztal offers plenty of hiking opportunities, also themed ones with kids. There are a some treasure hunts. We will go again!”

“This is my second time staying here. Bar service is incredibly slow and the bartenders are terribly inexperienced. They say they have AC, but never has it seemed to work for me or any of my fellow traveler. Sauna closes at 8:30, massages aren't offered after 4pm and if they are, they are booked up already. Breakfast is amazing and so is the view. The cleaning staff is great and always does a wonderful job. For the price, I expected a LOT more. Very disappointing.”

“We recently enjoyed a two-night stay at the Hotel Goldener Pflug and would highly recommend the hotel. Appreciated the friendly, helpful staff, both in the hotel and the restaurant. Rooms were very nice and spacious. An underground parking garage was available. Lovely breakfast buffet as well as a' la carte items. The hotel catered 2 or 3 larger events—décor in the event rooms was very classy and hotel guests were not inconvenienced.”

“This is a great hotel that is situated in a more residential area of the city. If you're looking for a place that is quiet for sleeping, and to enjoy a peaceful meal or to read a book outside, this is the place. The beds are very comfortable, rooms are very clean, and the hotel was extremely quiet. We brought my parents, who were staying in a hotel in Europe for the first time ever, and they thought it was lovely. The staff is very friendly. The elevator was fast and worked well. Complimentary bottles of water (large ones) are available at the front lobby, and the breakfast included a little bit of everything (American style breakfast, German specialties, etc). My husband and I are vegan, my parents are not; everyone had a full belly after breakfast. This hotel is not easy to access from public transportation if you have large suitcases, but if you take a taxi or Uber, and then deposit the baggage in your room, you can walk to the downtown area within 10-15 minutes. I absolutely recommend this hotel.”

It distinguishes itself in two ways from other hotels: first, it has a large and very nice SPA area with an outdoor and indoor pool for swimming and various sauna options. Ideal for a relaxing stay. Second, it offers some very fine dining with a 6 course menu served each evening. The quality of the food is outstanding and makes for e very oleasant culinary experience. The breakfast buffet is also very good and offers something for everyone. From muesli to omelett to meats and cheeses and sweets, it has it all. I will definitely return there, and I recommend you do the same.”

“Used to be better and they are clearly cutting corners. Dinner, part of the package, was nice but did not justify the price. Breakfast with a limited selection and not enough for everyone in the breakfast area. Had to keep an eye for when the staff came with more food to ensure I got what i wanted. No custom made eggs, which is usually an option in 4-star hotels. Large rooms with outdated furniture. The new breakfast area is very nicely done. More pleasant service would have been appreciated. Overall: overpriced and overrated. Will be staying somewhere else next time I visit the area.”

“The room is large and specious. However, there is no blinder to darken the room at the sunrise. So, if you cannot sleep in such condition, you wake up very early in summer. The breakfast quality is okay but very minimalistic. The breakfast room is very tight and feels crowded. We chose this hotel specifically because there were good reviews about the breakfast, but we actually didn’t enjoy it. We were there on a Sunday. The breakfast was served at 8am. So all guests who were awake since 5am because of the light, rushed to the breakfast room at 8:00 and it was a mess. Fried eggs were finished at 8:05, and so on. There is only a small table for all food on it. The croissant was the lowest quality. There was no sea food or cakes. In total, it was far from the relaxing rich breakfast that we expected. It was just rushing and bumping into other guests.”
