Top 5 Active Life in Maine

Footbridge Beach
4.8
( 8 reviews )

Maine 03907, United States

“A great beach, I call it a hidden gem. Only thing that’s not so great is the parking is $6 an hour. A vast beach that’s clean and big. When the tide is out you can walk a mile to reach the water. I go there often.”

Crescent Beach State Park
4.6
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 09:00 AM

109 Bowery Beach Rd, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107, United States

“Really pretty and nice beach! For a small fee of $8, for out of state residents, you can enjoy the beach. There were nice restrooms, and there were even free beach chairs and umbrellas provided by LL bean! We will definitely be returning.”

Fort Foster

“Visiting Maine every year, we always make it a point to go to Fort Foster: if it's summer, it's all about fishing and swimming; if it's fall, it's time for mushroom and berry picking. But winter? Don't come here in winter, it can get as low as minus 150 Fahrenheit, lol. My favorite spot, the best place I've tried lobsters, is Kittery Point”

East End Beach
4.5
( 16 reviews )

Eastern Promenade Trail, Portland, ME 04101, United States

“I did not attend the beach but did go to the area to the northwest with the boat launch and Rocky area. The boat launch looks to be in very good condition and an easy place to launch a boat. Minimal parking right close but there is a trailer parking place close. The dock looks to be fairly large once you do launch your boat you should be good. 1 hour parking for cars right beside it also.”

Roque Bluffs State Park
4.7
( 8 reviews )

145 Schoppee Point Rd, Roque Bluffs, ME 04654, United States

“Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful! The last time I was here I did the trails. They're a fun hike that isn't too difficult and there are benches periodically spread out through the trails. There's one area where you go up (or down) a very steep hill, so if you have balance issues, weak knees or ankles, I recommend bringing trekking poles. From this trail, there is an abandoned boat and a barge you can view. You can get to them eventually by continuing along the trail, eventually taking a left onto an unofficial trail, and then bushwhacking. Beware, the beach there sitting on is very muddy, so be prepared to get your feet wet or to view from the edge of the woods. The rest of the park really speaks for itself. Gorgeous ocean views, thundering sounds of waves even on a calm day, view of islands off in the distance, the sound of gulls, smell of salt, a breeze (or more sometimes), and all around pleasant and calming to be at. The pond on the other side is equally beautiful, and a calm counterpart to the ocean. In order to help maintain and preserve these parks, please be sure to pay the fees! They're cash only. I have attached an image of the current fees to this review.”

Gooch's Beach
4.6
( 16 reviews )

Beach Ave, Kennebunk, ME 04043, United States

“It is great place to relax (unless the tide is fully in) also if you are into surfing the waves are around 7-9 ft which is really nice! Also if you are looking for a place to relax this is most likely the place. The one thing that got me though is that it is the smell there does not smell good which kind of made a tiny bit bad but I still enjoyed it so hopefully you will to!”

Gorham Bike & Ski

693 Congress St, Portland, ME 04102, United States

“I can't say enough good things about my experiences with Gorham Bike & Ski. We've been in mostly for bikes, and have always done very well. Visited again yesterday to ask about and look at options, and Dan was great - very knowledgeable and helpful, no hard sell or upsell, helped us determine the best fit for us, and we walked out with just what we needed at a very good price. Dan was awesome, and the other team member who helped prep our bike was also very knowledgeable and helpful. GBS is on our short list for highest recommendations for local businesses.”

Sabattus Disc Golf Course & Pro Shop

605 Bowdoinham Rd, Sabattus, ME 04280, United States

“I'm not from Maine, so I was blown away by the quality and beauty of this course. We played the Hawk course, but I'll be back to play the others. Great service and the best selection of disks I've ever seen!”

Lake St. George State Park
4.6
( 8 reviews )

278 Belfast Augusta Rd, Liberty, ME 04949, United States

“This rating is for a day visit. I cannot speak to the camping experience here. The park itself is small but very well manicured. There is a large lawn set on a small hill which is great for picnics. There also are tables with charcoal grills all along the coast of the lake. There is no beach, but relatively easy access to swim via 3 rough cut stone steps about 25 feet long. There is a large stick built wall less pavilion building with picnic tables and cabinets. This also has a larger grill setup. There is a good size playground, complete with swings. You look across the lake to the far shore but there is enough open water for an excellent breeze. There is a large outbuilding with restrooms. I cannot speak to the cleanliness as I did not use them. The rest of the park was well maintained so I would hope they are as well. They do fence off a swimming area with a buoy line. All in all, a very nice place to visit, you can hear the road but that does not take away from the beauty of the place.”

Bubble Rock
4.8
( 8 reviews )

Park Loop Rd, Mt Desert, ME 04660, United States

“Awesome views! There are multiple options for this climb. Parking at the bubble parking lot (not supported by the Island Explorer bus). The walk has elevation, stairs in places, potentially muddy. Requires some persistence but this is not a bad walk to get to the Bubble Rock and the great views. Another option: start from the Jordan Pond trail. Steep climb, a lock of climbing and elevation. Higher difficulty for sure. Also getting to the top was very difficult. From the parking lot, you could walk onto the height with less stress. Try either but recommend parking at the bubble parking lot if you can. More fun for family.”
