Kibbitznest Books, Brews & Blarney

2212 N Clybourn Ave, Chicago, IL 60614, United States

“Unfortunately did not have a great first experience here. In fact, we left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. My friend and I came in unsure of what exactly the place was but it seemed like a nice “vibey” place to snack and read, like a cafe? bookstore? bar? meeting place? library? No idea lol! We found it on social media. We were stopping by half an hour before our spin pottery class started and had only been there maybe a total of 30 minutes. Half of which we spent looking around at books to purchase and going to the bathroom before a place on a couch finally opened up for us to sit and read. The other fifteen minutes is what I’m about to explain now: We sat listening to the music and looking through our books for not even 10 minutes before a lady with short, blonde hair approached us off-puttingly with “So What is it you’re going to order?”. Mind you, we hadn’t been handed a menu and at the time did not know there was a drink per hour minimum (again, regardless of that, we were sat for less than 10 mins). I’ll just do a back and forth of the exchange. Her tone was sarcastic and condescending and we were genuinely confused as to why. Me: “Sorry, we didn’t know we had to order something right now” Her: “Well, this IS a business” Me: “We’re aware… we just didn’t know what type of place this was. We’ve never been here” Her: “I’m not sure what you’re used to but we are at capacity and would rather have PAYING customers here” My friend: “Oh….kay. Yeah, um we’re actually leaving” and the lady proudly prances off to greet other customers. I was so upset by the interaction, no longer interested in purchasing the things I had in mind, so I went to the bar and asked to speak to someone privately. I already assumed that the blonde woman was likely the manager (She WAS). She walks up with the same snarky demeanor as before but you can tell she didn’t expect to be pulled aside. I just let her know how to properly speak to customers and how incredibly uncomfortable she made us. That it’s not okay to insult potential customers based off of personal dispositions, but luckily for her, she chose someone who will sit her down the way a teacher would a student instead of yelling. It’s just sad how proud she seemed of herself when she treated us that way and even sadder that a new, young customer such as myself would need to breakdown the issue to her. A simple “Hi! How are you? We actually have a food and drink minimum for seating. Here’s our menu so you can get a chance to look” would have gotten the message across just fine that we should order soon. She just stared at her toes and apologized for her approach and for not handling things better and then we left. It just sucks that we thought we found a cool, quaint place but left feeling unwelcome. Although we didn’t get to try anything, the food smelled like it could have been good. I wanted to try the pizza. Also, there seemed to be a lot of things offered there, we just didn’t get to experience that the way others did that night. The music was loud but there were private rooms you could reserve. Anyway, we’re still unsure exactly of what this business is categorized as since no one took the time to explain when asked, but it seems centered around money and lacks overall customer service. The bartender with red hair was nice though! And the nice guys at Jimmy John’s next door really redeemed our experience at this place.”

“Overall nice venue when it comes to appearance. Great place for Caucasian and similar ethnic backgrounds. Not a great place for African Americans. The staff treated us horrible there when we were there working an event. The management even treated us horrible When We complain to them about how we were being treated and the service that was being provided to us was not equivalent to the people we were working with. All the staff were caucasians and the wait staff were College age teenage students that all had a preconceived notion of how to deal with African-American people. They were misinformed. It's just unfair to go to places like that and get the type of treatment we got.”

“I'm from out of state and I had ordered with this company thou TCG. The owner reached out to me very fast so that's a plus but the only plus cause I waited 30days ordered in Oct and waited till November still didn't receive my cards I ordered from him and when we spoke he asked me to wait cause it was the busy season which I understand but when the time was up. I knew something was wrong and I tried to resolve it with the owner but he wasn't having it. So I contacted TCG player to get my refund back and when I showed them the conversation and proof from Google that I am not the only 1 who is deal with this issue they was more certain to deal with this issue. I am not 1 to be lied too. Probably going to the store is absolutely the better way to get w.e. he selling but buying online with this guy or girl is a dub for me. Thou the pictures it looks great but thou what I experienced was a hell nah. Ladies and gentlemen go to the store if you can but order online at your down risk is all I have to say. Now to the owner try to be more courteous and faithful to the ppl who trying to actually do business with you. I have 3 main cards store I shop from weekly and I have a few on TCG player. Loyal customer are the ones who gonna keep you and the business running. Hope 2024 changes for the better for you.”

Kane County Flea Market

525 S Randall Rd, St. Charles, IL 60174, United States

“Despite 90 temps with full sun this was hands down the best flea market around. We typically go early in the year or late and clearly the most vendors are summertime. Something for everyone! The only negative is cost. I remember it being $2 PP and it’s now $6. The vendor prices were reasonable and large selection of anything you can think of.. we’ll be back!”

Rolling Stones

Open until 08:00 PM

7300 W Irving Park Rd, Norridge, IL 60706, United States

“Absolutely love Rolling Stones Chicago’s Superstore! Fantastic place to shop for vinyls, both vintage and new releases plus collector vinyls. Also available are CD’s, fun merchandise, movies, a listening station, and more in a great environment. You can spend a-lot of time in here. There were all ages here; saw some 20s, 30s, 40s, and a couple of seniors. This store has been here for a very long time but some of us collectors are going full circle and collecting vinyl’s again and rediscovering places again. I personally collect vinyls of artists that I have seen in person in concerts - many of them vintage, and was able to cross 2 of them off my list. I still like to hold the artwork in my hands unlike digital music. In comparison to my other 2 vinyl stores I frequent this would rank 1 in selection not to mention the fun inside. Rolling Stone has the most to offer IMO overall so will return and I took my daughter with me who ended up loving it too. For those that have to drive a bit, right next door is a really authentic good bakery where you can stop in after and buy a pastry to take home as a little bonus.”

Pirates' Cove Children's Theme Park

901 Leicester Rd, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, United States

“This little amusement park is the perfect size for toddlers and great age appropriate activities for littles. I would say ages 2-7 is the sweet spot for Pirate’s Cove. They everything from a merry-go-round to paddle boats, trains, bouncy house and more. If you haven’t been, do it! It’s a super fun family activity, and they have a picnic area on the pirate ship. What’s not to love?!”

“I love the atmosphere @ THE TAT CAVE It was my first time getting my nose pierced and Mike was my piercer and he made the entire process so much better, he’s very funny and has a way of making you feel welcome/very comfortable. He’s very knowledgeable and told me everything he was doing before he did it, very quick and surprisingly not painful at all. It’s been 3 days now my nose doesn’t hurt at all and is healing fine. Upon entering I was greeted with a smile definitely would recommend this place. I’ll definitely be returning for soon for a tattoo 🤗🥰”

“It was an amazing experience to attend the third Friday open house at Zhou B Art Center this past week. The five floors of the building are a magnet for artists, collectors and art appreciators. There was so much going on it was hard to take it all in and I can't wait to attend the third Friday in October. I was amazed at the quality and variety of the artwork and it was fun to meet the artists and speak to them about their art.”

Analog Pizza & Arcade

1405 5th Ave, Moline, IL 61265, United States

“Stopped in real quick on a whim. Didn't get any food. Have been disappointed with the davenport analog recently so I thought we'd try this one. Turns out it's pretty much the same. Roughly half of the games are broke, and the ones that aren't are too overpriced. 75 cents for pinball, one of the 4 working pinball machines out of 9/10? Bought 40 tokens between the 2 of us, didn't even finish them. Gave them to a kids birthday party. Analog was so cool when it first opened in davenport. I'm not sure what changed but it's lost a lot of shine.”

Tighthead Brewing Company

Their main front tap room looks into the back brewing area. There is also a large front patio area (with heaters for cooler fall months) and a grassy lawn area/beer garden. Food trucks are there multiple nights throughout the week and there’s trivia night on Wednesdays. Kid-friendly and inclusive, Tighthead is truly the best!”

“Had a great time seeing live music in the suburbs. Because it's a smaller venue, there are no bad seats. The beverage options were great too. Several beers, ipa, non-alcoholic options. I'll definitely checkout another performance here.”
