“We visited the Westcliff Theatre for the Summer Show. I wasn't overly sure if we would like it, but I shouldn't have been worried as kids loved it. I was also very impressed with the theatre and theatre staff - it was clean and comfortable, and the staff couldn't do more to try and help. I also felt that the snack and drink prices were very reasonable!”

“Lovely museum with a unique collection of steam and diesel locomotives and a wide variety of rolling stock. My favourite is the Class 317 DTSO! There are plenty of well-organised events throughout the year, catering for families and rail enthusiasts alike! There is also a miniature railway on site that is operated on certain days and a model railway layout in the Thompson Building. The staff and volunteers are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend!”

“Oh Wow! A private cinema since 1910, small, very personal & quirky. Has 2 screens, which show all the latest films. The box office offers tickets, drinks & snacks at very reasonable prices too! Well worth a visit!”

“Went here with the family having not been for over 10 years and it has drastically changed (and improved). We went in particular to meet father Christmas and for a smaller volunteer run heritage railway we had a really fantastic time. We met a lovely Father Christmas and took a little trip on the diesel train that was running. After choosing a gift we had a nice (and reasonably priced) lunch in a buffet coach of an intercity train. A really nice place to go for a few hours. Looks like they have loads of other trains and carriages kicking around so I'm sure there are other ide options throughout the year. Dogs welcome and do pop in to see the model railway, its pretty cool!”

“Softplay was pretty good and kids loved it. At £36 for four kids (plus two adults) it's a bit pricey though. Cafe was OK, but also a bit pricey and seemed quite chaotic. Was told they'd bring coffees to the table, but had to return to the till to ask where they were. Turns out they were going cold on the counter. Seemed to be several staff members on shift, including one supervising the Under 5's area, so that's a plus. My main concern was the layout. The Over 5's section is right against the front exit, the cafe in the middle, and the Under 5's at the back. Makes it very hard to keep eyes on kids if you have one in each area. There is limited seating by the exit, but that's no good if you're there with a little one. With the adult toilets situated in the bar next door, there is an awful lot of footfall at the exit, and although small children won't be able to release the exit gate, it seems far too easy for curious kids to slip out unnoticed, or worse still be removed without the parents noticing. Despite there always being someone on front desk, they're generally on their own and serving incoming visitors, and I didn't feel the exit was as tightly monitored as I'd have liked given the parents are unable to properly keep an eye out from the cafe. I appreciate it's the parent's job to look after the children at these venues, but in others I've visited the seating area makes it easier to keep tabs on your kids.”
