Top 5 Arts & Entertainment in Iowa

National Motorcycle Museum
4.8
( 8 reviews )

102 Chamber Dr, Anamosa, IA 52205, United States

“This museum is great! They also give military/Veterans a discount on the admission. The history and the motorcycles are amazing! I CAN NOT believe they're closing their doors in September. It's a shame this museum and the history are going to be auctioned off. I'm hoping someone with the cash can step up and save this place before it's gone. It's definitely worth a stop and seeing all the motorcycles and other history. See it before it's gone!”

Living History Farms

( 10 reviews )

11121 Hickman Rd, Urbandale, IA 50322, United States

“Nice diversion today. Nice walk through farming history and a little something for everyone. We did not stay for the Oldies Ballgame but watched a bit. Easy walk and fun tractor ride back in time. Little ones will have fun but …”

Valle Drive In
4.6
( 8 reviews )

4074 Hwy F48 W, Newton, IA 50208, United States

“We went early September, the place wasn't overly crowded. The concession stand had good movie type food, we brought in our own but did grab some popcorn. The screen was huge and had a good picture! Perfect place for kids. We listened through our radio but they had speakers as well. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and comfy clothes. The double feature makes for a long night! There is plenty of room to leave if you don't want to stay all night. Definitely going back!”

Cinema West Theatre
4.6
( 10 reviews )

4710 4th St SW, Mason City, IA 50401, United States

“Very nice theatre!!! Comfortable reclining chairs, $6 movie Tuesdays, great variety of theatres with LDX screens and all kinds of snacks!! Have been here many times and recommend this theatre as it's always clean and usually pretty easy to get seating unless it's a popular movie then usually order tickets ahead of time which you can do online or purchase at the location itself.”

American Gothic House Center
4.6
( 16 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

300 American Gothic St, Eldon, IA 52554, United States

“Ok here comes the confession: I was looking for a spooky black goth house not realizing this is one of the most if not #1 paintings that has a huge cult parody following. Also very famous architecture. Once I figured it all out I was amazed and in awe that I was standing in front of the house where the famous picture was taken. Lots of history and photo opps. You can dress up for a fee and have your pic taken in front of the famous house, there are nature trails as well. There is a gift shop and a small area with more photos and history. The small area in the back of the gift shop is blocked by velvet ropes and there is a fee to get back there. *That's also where the *bathrooms are located and you have to pay the fee to use the restroom.* That was the only down side especially after our long drive. It's very beautiful there and lots of room to just roam around, get the kids and pets out of the car and have a really nice walk.”

Codfish Hollow Barnstormers
4.9
( 8 reviews )

5013 288th Ave, Maquoketa, IA 52060, United States

“Hidden gem of a music venue in a beautiful setting. We were there to see The BoDeans and an opening set by Marques Morel and the entire show was amazing. Just about every show sells out quickly so go to their website and book early. A true treat of a place”

Launchpad Children's Museum
4.6
( 8 reviews )

623 Pearl St, Sioux City, IA 51101, United States

“Nice place to entertain younger kids during winter months. They only had 2 smocks available for the water play area which was not nearly enough because even with signs saying to leave them in place for the next person we saw families take them with to other areas & then go back to the water play area afterwards with the smock to continue play there. I would say the cutoff age where kids will enjoy it is 10. Tweens and teens definitely won't get much enjoyment out of it after 30 minutes. I would love to see more comfortable seating throughout for the adults.”

Cedar Rapids Museum Of Art
4.6
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

410 3rd Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401, United States

“2002, the Museum was given the building that houses the original studio of Grant Wood. Located just three blocks from the Museum, the loft studio, known by its fictitious address of 5 Turner Alley, was designed and constructed by Wood, who lived and worked there between 1924 and 1935. It was here that he painted American Gothic (1930)—now part of the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago—and many of his most famous paintings. The Grant Wood Studio is open to the public for guided tours from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays from April through December.”

Giving Tree Theater
4.9
( 8 reviews )

752 10th St, Marion, IA 52302, United States

“This is a quaint little storefront theater in downtown Marion. I went to see a murder mystery which they do several times a year. There is audience participation with questions to get clues and a chance to guess who the murderer is. They announce who won with much fanfare. It's so fun for everybody. It's all community volunteers and directors. The seating floor is couches and easy chairs. Feel free to bring your blanket, slippers and stuffies. The staff comes to your seat to take your order. At intermission they come and see if you want refills. And at the end of the show they come and take your check. You don't have to get up for any of it. The staff is super friendly and they give part of the profits to a chosen charity that rotates. Highly recommended!”

The Quarter Barrel Arcade & Brewery
4.3
( 8 reviews ) $$

616 2nd Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401, United States

“We had a great time here this evening! We are currently road tripping from Ohio and were looking for something that would be fun for us and also our five year old. Our daughter absolutely loved the arcade games, of course, and we all loved the food. We got a Bowser pizza and it had the perfect amount of spice. We also got the Princess Peach dessert pizza, which was very tasty. Between my husband and I, we tried three different QB beers and enjoyed all of them. Service was great! It wasn’t too crazy when we got there around 5, but was packed when we left. Our daughter asked if we could “plllllleeeeease” come back — and we certainly will if we are ever in Cedar Rapids again!”
