Top 5 Arts & Entertainment in Devon

National Trust - Heddon Valley
4.8
( 8 reviews ) $$

Heddon Valley Near, Barnstaple EX31 4PY, United Kingdom

“Access to this place is via some fairly narrow lanes. Definitely follow the National Trust signs and not the sat nav as you get closer. I Started the walk at the National Trust car park. Free for members, £5 or something otherwise. You can pick up the trail through the picnic area next to the pub or cross the bridge and take the path along the river from that side. You then just follow the river down to the sea. There are various small bridges to take alternative routes. The tree line obscures the river at various points until you reach closer to the sea. I found it easier to access the beach via the path on the left of the river as you walk towards the sea. There is a small old kiln at the river mouth to briefly explore. I walked back to the car via the opposite river bank. Along this way you can see a few more bridges and some small streams flowing down into the river. I also saw a large stag grazing near the picnic area. An excellent walk despite the gloomy weather. It was late afternoon when I arrived at the car park so I did not have much time to spend here. It took around 1 hour to reach the sea and back. The car park was not locked when I finally left about 5-6pm.”

Princetown, Yelverton PL20 6RR, United Kingdom

“A peek into prisoner's life. A bit dark but real”

National Trust - Compton Castle
4.2
( 8 reviews ) $$

Gropers Ln, Compton TQ3 1TA, United Kingdom

“A hidden gem. Worth the visit even though only a few rooms are available to be viewed due to the property still being lived in by the family who built it. The staff were friendly and very knowledgeable and approachable. Beautiful gardens and orchard. Not many facilities, no gift shop or cafe but a lovely area for picnics and toilets are available. Disabled visitors may find the 2 rooms upstairs difficult or impossible due to the narrow spiral staircases.”

Coldharbour Mill
4.5
( 8 reviews )

Uffculme, Cullompton EX15 3EE, United Kingdom

“A lovely Victorian woollen mill, which takes the visitor on a journey through not only from sheep to cloth, but from pre-industrial revolution, to the modern day in its history. Learn what a weasel was (and what makes it pop) to how Fox's factory made the putties for the British Army. See the machines in action on the factory floor. Our amazing and knowledgeable guide was Meg, who talked us through what each machine does, and how and switched each one on in turn. See the machinery and engines that power the factory (very Steampunk) and about the home guard taking practice shots at the clock! Feed the duck who swim on the mill pond and are always up for more food, and visit the café for a light bite to refuel while you try to choose which fabulous yarn you want to make your next project in, or sit outside and enjoy the view of this fabulous historic building and it's beautifully planted garden.”

The Ilfracombe Aquarium
4.1
( 8 reviews )
Open until 04:00 PM

The Quay, Ilfracombe EX34 9EQ, United Kingdom

“A fantastic aquarium focusing on local marine wildlife. It’s quite a small aquarium but the layout is fantastic, taking you on a journey of the local water environments and what creatures you’d expect to find there. My daughters (2yo + 4m) both really enjoyed it as we were given a step at the beginning which enabled my daughter to see the fish at a much better height (such a lovely touch!) Highly recommend ☺️”
