Ironclad Coffee Roasters & Baking Co.
4.6
( 8 reviews ) $$
Open until 05:00 PM

1805 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23223, United States

“A must visit if you are in Richmond, VA! Built in an old firehouse, the brick ambience paying homage to Richmond's history, there are many great spots to enjoy your cup of coffee and pastry. While a bit pricey, the pastries are absolutely delicious-- I highly recommend the croissants and biscuit sandwiches.”

“Place with a good vibe. I tried avocado toast and mango smoothie. Avocado toast could have been better. Mango smoothie was actually good. I didn’t try any coffee there though. Their restrooms are very clean and well maintained.”

“The cafe is cool and all. The baked goods are good but their pumpkin spice latte sucks. Tastes nothing like pumpkin. Has a very metallic taste. Please change your syrup or whatever you are using”

Rare Bird Coffee Roasters

230 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046, United States

“Rare Bird Coffee is a "rare" sight in the heart of Falls Church area. A quaint coffee bistro in a rusty, idyllic street, where other shops/restaurants such as Dogwood Tavern are located. What I ordered: Cardamom Vanilla Latte. It was so-so and while I probably would not try again, I recommend giving it a go if it's your first time grabbing something on the menu, as it was me. 2/5 stars overall. My recommendation: go on the weekends, specifically on Saturday. The local FC farmer's market runs from 9-12 on Saturdays and is easily within walkable distance of here. There's also a nicely-designed, upscale Harris Teeter's here which is a bit closer to the market, so you can also knock out grocery shopping at the same time. Parking: I took pictures and figured out there's an attached parking lot behind the coffee shop in question. A small entranceway leads off to the back, and sufficient parking there. When driving from the main road, you can take a right (and left into the lot) when you see Rare Bird's on your street-side. I did not know of this, and instead took a turn one street early; but that worked out well, as there's *another* lot there as well. Free 2-hour parking, just avoid the reserved spots and you should be good to go. Ambiance: 4/5 stars. A semi-grand, open seating (albeit in a sunny spot) near the storefront of the coffee shop. I've never sat here, but it appears packed most of the time I come here. There's also a secluded nook if you take a right from the entrance, which leads to a few tables and a calmer, more "relaxed" ambiance, likewise looking into the Main Street (see included photo). I haven't sat here, but I could easily see myself busting out my laptop along with a latte (maybe) and riding the web on the coattails of the complementary wifi for a good while here, without anyone tapping you on the shoulder and reminding you it's about time to hit the road, you freeloader you. So far I've come here three or so times, all on weekend afternoons. My recommendation would be to come early(ish) and to check the store hours beforehand, as they do close earlier than expected at times. All in all, their lattes here are nothing to write home about, and I've certainly had better ones elsewhere, in more hole-in-the-wall places. The Cardamom Vanilla latte I had, which is supposed to be their crown jewel or some such, was rather lackluster to me and borderline mediocre, meaning it barely squeezed by in the taste test. So don't expect anyone to hit anything out the park, and you should be solid. Their ambiance is spot on, and I like the ample sunlight and cooled interior on summer days, provides a noteworthy respite. The FC Main Street is right outside, and I would highly recommend going for a stroll, maybe get some ice cream on the way at the nearby shop (same side of the street). All in all, solid ambiance, good palate-cleanser lattes, and try to manage expectations and you might very well end up pleasantly surprised.”

Koffee Kup
4.6
( 8 reviews )
Open until 02:00 PM

22763 Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502, United States

“Koffee Kup used to be my go to breakfast place before I moved. It’s still good but it’s not quite as good and has changed. Today I found out that they no longer have sliced fried potatoes with onions. Always what I ordered. Instead they only have fried cubed potatoes which I never ordered. Getting rid of one of their best breakfast items is not a welcome or positive change. I also asked for my corned beef hash to be cooked extra crispy. That’s not what I got. Maybe not being a regular anymore results in folks not cooking something the way you want it. I didn’t complain and went with the flow. When I go back I’ll emphasize it again and send it back to be cooked more. Service was excellent as usual.”

“Avocado toast appeared as if no effort was made to make it look more appealing and inviting and you can see how English breakfast looks like too. The atmosphere was quite pleasant, but the service didn’t stand out in any particular way. Coffee was ok too.”

“Good: + Great service and atmosphere. + Nice tables and power outlets for work and study. Not so good: - The chairs are less comfortable. - They give pagers to customers after ordering and the constant beeping sounds are annoying in coffee shop environment. - The food and coffee was okay but way too expensive. Here’s the breakdown: ethio anarobic pour over: $9 sausage roll: $3.75 subtotal: $12.75 va+fairfax tax 10%: $1.28 tip: $2.10 total: $16.13 comparing to similar ordering from caffe amouri, cheaper price better breakfast adventure java anaerobic hand pour: $5.67 sausage egg cheese english muffin: $5.18 subtotal: 10.85 tip: 1.63 total: 12.48”

Fairfax Simply Social Coffee

Open until 05:00 PM

11282 James Swart Cir, Fairfax, VA 22030, United States

“We ordered avocado toast and pesto chicken melt for brunch. My wife's avocado toast was generally average tasting, and for me, the pesto chicken melt had a strong taste as the chicken breast was too dry and hard. I wish it was a little more soft and moist. The coffee tasted like your typical average.”

“This was my 3rd visit to Lily's chocolate & and coffee. I took my aunt, and she LOVED IT! The first time I went was with my son and wife, who were here to visit during the holidays from California. We went to the one in old Town Alexandria which is also super cute, only issue is parking, but that's pretty much the pain everywhere in Old town I do not have enough words to say how amazing, cute, and extremely delicious everything is in here, specially the Biscoff Lockma (my favorite) also the pistachio lockma is delicious as well.. all of them! Lol and the chocolate cover strawberries are amazing, too. Service is top-notch! The environment is super cozy, and the shop is super cute. You will want to take pictures on every corner. I'm attaching some pictures from the one in old Town Alexandtia and the one in Vienna :)”

Tatte Bakery & Cafe
4.4
( 8 reviews ) $$
Open until 08:00 PM

2129 I St NW, Washington, DC 20037, United States

“We often see the Tatte Bakery & Cafe in DC and have wanted to try it someday. Normally this cafe looks busier especially on weekends so we visited on a weekday afternoon. It was better than the weekend but there were still many people dining, so our expectation is greater. There are a lot of attractive cakes and bread and we needed several minutes to figure out what we should try. When we decided and ordered, we totally forgot each names, however the employee was really patient and walked with us when we pointed. Especially the pistachio croissant was tasty and highly recommend it. We also got the monkey bread which was good and not too sticky which is good for people eating there and have to go back to work. I would recommend the monkey bread as it is hard to do this well The Pumpkin Bread was soft not dry and very tasty. If we walk around DC and find their chain store, we will try some other cakes or bread as well.”
