“Getting a cookie at Feeling Good Bakery is always a treat. In the two years I’ve lived in Nantes, I’ve tried most of their flavors and they have mastered every one. The cookie is soft and gooey and melts in your mouth within seconds. It’s also huge! Definitely left feeling satisfied after. “This was the last of a small sub challenge : Trying every Michelin Star in Vendée (just to have a break between the two main challenges). I’ll come back to the learning of this small challenge later on. A MOF humbly. So what’s interesting here? Actually not interesting, but crazy. As usual I’m just good to focus on a few things, not to bore you to death. What’s crazy ? 3 things. You’re eating at a MOF. What’s a MOF, you may ask? Best Worker in France (Meilleur Ouvrier de France). I’ve already explained it in length in a previous review, so sorry for those who know or (less likely) have already read me rave about it. It’s a very very prestigious competition held every 3/4 years. Basically if you win there is a party hosted by the French president for you (and your colleagues because it’s not just chef, it’s various skills, like “sommelier “…) at l Élysée. I’d love to be in one of those parties by the way… Must be great, not that I intend to participate, I’m physically enable, but the food, wine and people! Anyway, what’s crazy is that you’re eating at a table of a MOF. La crème de la crème. And he’s there. Working. That’s the second point. One could imagine that once you’re a MOF you’ve arrived, and you can rest. Nope. He’s there, checking every plate that goes in the room. Actually that’s the thing that I noticed with the MOF: it’s perfect. I’ve been in several and it’s the common trait: perfection. The level is very high, and you will have every angles covered (crunchy, play with acidity, textures, variations etc…). Just look at the videos or the pictures. In his cases, he’s assuming the location by incorporating local elements and playing with them (especially the incorporation of “mogette” white beans). The level is very high indeed. But let’s go to the third point. The pricing. Here, I’ll take them as a perfect exemple but it’s shared by 90% of the étoilés (and not only of course). I had the chance to chat with the chef and his wife. Something stroked me. I mentioned that the price of the menu was really low. He replied that it was calculated so they could go by. Yes… that’s the difference between a passionated gastronomic and a restaurant run like a “normal “ business. In one case, it’s just business at the end of the day. In the second one they try to express themselves and calculate the price so that they can go by and have clients. That’s what in terms of price Dover quality the Michelin Stars are often surprisingly unbeatable. In that specific case, the menu is staged in a way that there’s a real difference between each (not just one or two added dishes). I truly admire that although it must be a logistical nightmare for them. Ok, you got it by now. It’s not just worth a stop, it worths the detour. A top tiers one star. To be continued”

“A bit of context; we had travelled since 0530am and as Laval is largely shut on a Sunday night had limited options. We both decided Italian would be good; we have a couple of weeks of gastronomy to come! We looked at the recent reviews and our heart sunk. However… the place was packed, inside and out with locals. The service was really good; even had a limoncello at the end. The food was great. I had lasagne husband had pizza. Both were tasty and generous in size. Couple of scoops of ice cream, couple of beers and an aperitivo all for 60 euros. I would genuinely recommend it.”
