Vic And Al's

“I needed a special place for a special anniversary for my special fiancée. I had reservation options, but I had heard great things about Vic and Al’s, and decided to roll the dice on getting in. Holy &$@*, am I glad we did. We pulled up, and thought it looked packed inside. Girlfriend went in to check, and the look was deceiving - they were definitely busy, but you can sit and order at the bar, as well. When it’s not too cold, there’s patio seating, too. We had catfish atchafalaya smothered in crawfish and shrimp étouffée, and a wood-fired oven-roasted mahi mahi with charred fennel, mashed sweet potatoes and sweet chili glaze. And, of course, the danged corn dogs. An Old Fashioned is a simple thing that is often wrong, somehow, but their corn old fashioned was solid as could be. My fiancée , who doesn’t usually love martinis, declared Winnie Martini one of the best martinis she’s ever had. The Orange Drink (tequila, ginger cayenne simple syrup, carrot and orange juice, with a citrus salt on the rim) was fantastic. But yay, fantastic food and drinks and a cozy, lively atmosphere. What really got us was the service. When everything is so fantastic, they could get away with good or “great” service. It could be super-efficient and servile, or it could have personality but just OK. The staff here gave you the kind of touches and personal attention you’d expect in a more expensive and potentially stuffy restaurant, but with a personality and sense of genuine care. We’ll definitely be back, and we’re bringing friends. I’ve lived in Austin all my life, over 50 years, and this is the sort of restaurant we all want to see survive and thrive. So, go do your part for that - you’ll be rewarded!”

“Food and drinks are ordered on an app. Service is fairly quick and the staff is friendly. Mimosa kit is a good value and the food is on point. The place is dog friendly, enough shade and misters over a portion of the tables. There is a pickle ball court and they had a couple of bulls there for photo ops which was interesting. There is lot of parking and definitely a spot I’d return to.”

“Good Korean restaurant with great food and ambiance to hang out . We love the Korean military hotpot and it is so flavorful . The spicy tofu is so flavorful . The soju and sake are decent . The service is good and cannot complain . The only downside is the wait time . The past few times we have had many hours of wait time even if we show up early as soon as they open . Sometimes we have had 3-4 hours wait time and we chose to go to a different Korean place which has similar food and probably no wait time . They need to work on this aspect to attract more crowd. Otherwise it is a great place overall.”

“The atmosphere is amazing for a date night, nice vibes and good music. The service is also amazing, with no complaints. Now, the food on the other was okay I guess. The Pizza was meh 😐, I had got the love supreme and I really didn't eat it. I also got the tomato salad, a unique salad I would recommend it to anyone. Lastly their wings are a nice size with a nice crunch to them but didn't have that much flavor in my opinion. The ranch that came with it tasted like fried pickles, which I didn't mind. Overall, would I come back ugh for the food no, but for the atmosphere and cool vibes yeah.”

“I had higher expectations for the food, but as other reviews mentioned it seems that the price point doesn't line up at all with the quality. We came during the brunch menu and ordered the spinach cheese dip to start with and I'm not sure what the standard for it is, but I'm truly baffled how both the chef and our server could look at it and decide it should ever leave the kitchen. What little cheese wasn't burned had been reduced to a congealed cottage cheese consistency. It's the first time I've ever sent a dish back. The chef(?) came out at some point after we sent it back and made small talk before going back inside, but never mentioned the dish to either explain or apologise. The server removed it from our ticket but didn't make any suggestions or effort to replace it. The rest of the meal was mediocre. We ordered a medium brick burger that came out well done, the crab Benedict was crab cakes that had very little flavour, the seasonal salad was an underwhelming plain spinach salad with a sprinkling of blueberries and strawberries and a dressing you don't need to write home about, the smoked brisket in the hash didn't taste smoked. Decided against dessert because I didn't want to see if it would match the rest of the experience. Overall I want to rate the food 1/5, maybe 2/5 because the staff are kind. The third star is for the beauty of the vineyard, the music and the quality of the wine. The Super Texas was a little too astringent for my tastes, but the rest of the wines are beautiful and definitely unique. I recommend people should go for the wine, the views and the live music, but eat before you go or stick to the pizzas.”

“Late post Oct 23’ Domo Alley-Gato Tatsu-Ya – Located in East Austin Domo Alley-Gato Tatsu-Ya was only a 5 min walk from my cousins, with a lot of thought and deliberation they decided finally settled on this place. Arrived on a Sunday afternoon and to my surprise with football season it was a bit quiet, which was good because we were able to take our time looking over the menu. They are a mostly outside venue with limited inside seating and is very dog friendly! They also share the restroom with the ramen spot next door. The atmosphere was that of Japan (peep the pics), very beautiful! Everything (food and drinks) was reasonably priced... We mostly got small plates but if you are hungry get the ramen but only want apps as a meal I would suggest a bowl of Curry/Chashu with Karage/Goyza. The fam and I got; Curry, Chashu, Edamame, Spicy Edamame, Korokkaaayyy, Gyoza, Katsu Slider, Karage and Negi rice bowl. Curry – Nicely seasoned, no meat Chashu- Delish, basically a porkbelly type adobo Edamame/Spicy Edamame – Both very good but I would get the spicy, better flavor Korokkaayyy – Typical flavor Gyoza – Came out pipping hot, flavorful and juicy! Karage – Can taste the marinade, crispy and addicting Katsu Slider – Yummm but so small for $6 Negi Rice Bowl – OOOOoo this was a flavor bomb, surprisingly enjoyed this dish. Very savory! Shinku punch – Very flavorful and refreshing paired well with all the dishes!”
