“What a quirky pub. We stopped in here for a drink before dinner and ended up coming back afterwards. Very friendly and attentive bar staff. They know their gins - each was garnished well. I love the layout and the history of the place being an old 'drunk tank'. We managed to get a table in one of the cells, a really cool experience. Highly recommend a visit! Lovely beer garden too!”

“Liverpool institution! Not visited for a number of years, glad to see it still pretty much the same.. Friendly patrons and decent selection of beer (I had a pint of ' Blueberry Hill', full of flavour!). Decor is still crazy, one of the best decorated bars I have ever seen. There was plenty of space to sit and a fair few tourists seemed to be in, which I wasn't expecting. All trying the Guinness, which I am told is one of the best in Liverpool. People certiantly seemed to be enjoying it. Great place to visit and just chill out.”

“Only went for drinks with friends and the dog, but the bar staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. Brought out a dog bowl full of water, and surprised us all with a free hotdog for Alan (our corgi), which he scoffed down at speed! Definitely will be coming back for more good drinks, great atmosphere, and fantastic hospitality!”

“Best pub on campus, with a more traditional feel compared to anywhere else nearby. As well as a great mix of students and locals. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff, with more quiet, conversational vibes perfect for a mature student like myself. Will often pop in after lectures for a drink, usually served by Bella or James who are both lovely. It's always a pleasure to feel so welcomed. Fantastic pub to stop in for a quick drink or with a night with friends, chatting and socialising. Plus pub quizzes on Wednesday's!”

“Wow wow WOW!! What an amazing treat for us, having enjoyed the best bottomless brunch with a group of friends, celebrating 50ths. So, first of all, the selection available is amazing. This is for both the food and drinks. Can personally say, I sampled most of available drinks, and all cocktails freshly made and delish! They even have 2 incredible mocktails. Secondly, the staff worked hard and catered for us all so efficiently and well, never having to wait long for our drinks to be refilled. The food arrived and certainly no complaints from any of us 9. Absolutely gorgeous, plentiful and all piping hot. Final verdict - an absolute hit!! All agreed it was an amazing experience and certainly worth every penny. Bobby dazzler!”

“The Handyman feels like a place I should love. Brew their own ales, have a great selection of guest ales both on tap and bottles but there's something not quite right. It doesn't have any kind of atmosphere. The front bar has a few long tables and chairs but there's nothing comfortable about the place. The front windows open in summer which probably would make it more pleasant. The back room is completely soulless, school cafeteria vibes. It's also pretty dingy. Not sure if it's because of the brewing but it's also got a unpleasant aroma most of the time. Great beer but not surroundings I enjoy.”
