“Spent one night here during a seminar. The theme is lovely and very relaxing. The place is very quiet as there is no busy roads or other habitation nearby. Food was very tasty with high quality ingredients. However the breakfast was quite limited, only ham, hard egg and cheese for “salty” option. I wish there were some beans, vegetables and eventually smoked salmon. But for a 10€ breakfast, if you only eat sweet food, I guess you will be satisfied. Staff was well trained and professional. Plenty of parking spots. Room was spacious and nicely decorated. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. The soundproofing between rooms was not good.”

“It is a nice hotel, located in a very good spot close to all the attractions. I have reservation on the staff. They are very rude at the reception and not cooperative. We had a special request that was easy to accomodate but the receptionist "Mara" treated us very badly and did not want to speak to us. The rooms are clean, but the room service is very bad. Try not to ask them for anything, otherwise they make a big deal about asking for the smallest things.”

“Nice camping opposite a beautiful beach. The camping site is nice and well kept, although the chalets are quite close together. There were frequent concerts and other sources of noise around the site in the first week (some of them not on the camp site itself), but the second week was very quiet and relaxing. The covered swimming pool was great for the few rainy days we had - we liked it enough to think we may be coming back next year...”

“Hotel R makes for a very comfortable stay. One thing they do really well is make the room quiet. I was on the 1st floor, and barely heard any street noise. A police car drove by and it sounded like it was blocks away. They have two layers of windows, one that’s double-paned. Had a very nice stay. Loved their tea time snacks.”

“This Hotel is very nice but! I sort of wondered if anyone worked there? On arrival at 15.00 on Friday, the young receptionist seemed confused as our rooms were not ready, but we only had to wait a short time. We were 3 guests which included 2 elderly ladies one with a walking stick Parking in the garage under the Hotel was perfect, but when I asked for help with baggage, I was asked why!, I requested a trolley, and then I asked another young woman if there was a trolley or someone could help, fortunately she seemed to know and helped me At 17.30, we went to the bar but no one was there, eventually the chef came to serve drinks, by that time we decided to go for a walk. Dinner was very good, service and menu excellent. Our 1st morning breakfast, a buffet, was very good but only one young man attending to the room, Only one staff. Next morning a disaster!, we arrived for breakfast, a large group had been in before , the tables were at mess, none set up and above all, the buffet, nothing left, we felt for the young man, again only one staff, he was trying clean up the tables, along with other guests, we complained to the receptionist offered us the breakfast for free. The day receptionist, Quentin, was very helpful, but also felt for him having to field off so many complaints. The night receptionist, Guillaume also was very helpful. I could not recommend this Hotel at all, It seemed to me the staff had to cope with bad management , not enough staff.”

The hotel itself is very nice and the courtyard gives it a communal atmosphere - I think summer here would be very nice. The hotel provides a swimming pool with spa and hammam, and the bar is very comfortable, with incredibly nice and attentive staff. The room we stayed in was very clean and spacous and felt like it was recently renovated. The position of the hotel is very close to the beach as well as some great restaurants and patisseries. Over all I would highly recommend the Grand Hotel Des Bains as one of the best stays in La Rochelle!”

“A perfect campsite!! Incredibly friendly staff, very clean facilities, quiet at night (you can hear the sea!), and beautiful surroundings. AND it is literally across the street from a fantastic beach that has lifeguards, bathrooms, and cafes. We did not miss the 'extras' of other sites like a pool etc because of how comfortable and welcome we felt. Great proximity to Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and San Sebastien as well. We were there for 2 nights (arrived without a reservation, we have a small tent) with our 10 year old twins and didn't want to leave! Highly recommend.”

“Have visited a lot of places in Europe and and can only say that France have their own standard for number of stars. This hotel is in my opinion not a 4-star hotel as the room we stayed in, even though it is one of the largest, is not up to standard. I can mention: - The toilet is very tiny and is not together with the bath or the zink (this is in another room) - the sofa in our lounge room is an extra pull out bed, so it is impossible to sit in normally. The pillows keep falling out. - the towels in the bath room are very small - the breakfast is ok, but nothing special. They do make the worst bacon, I've tasted. I think They microwave it, as it has no crust or crispness at all. On the plus side, the service of the staff is top notch. Very friendly all of them and very helpful.”

Tent spaces are right between prefab houses, and some of them keep their lights on at night making it even more difficult to sleep. Moreover the same kids start bouncing balls again at 7 am. We don't recommend this camping to anyone.”
