“Nice area, nice beach and piers. I saw the Sam Laud ship offloading at the gypsum plant. Big ship at 634 feet. Several working barges for the erosion work by North Point Marina. Michels is a big outfit doing very nice work on the lakefront.”

Milton Lee Olive Park

( 8 reviews )
Open until 08:00 PM

E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611, United States

“Milton Lee Olive III Park is a hidden gem, one of those places that would never make it in a tourist’s guide book but is loved by locals who flock here with their dogs and enjoy magnificent views of the Chicago skyline. Located in between Ohio Street Beach and Navy Pier, this park is dedicated to the memory of the first African -American to receive the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War. Because of the glorious views of the skyline, this little park is popular with wedding proposals. Apart from the great views, don’t expect much when visiting. Chicago has sadly neglected this park and it is in need of restoration.”

Jubilee College State Park

( 8 reviews )

W Fussner Rd, Brimfield, IL 61517, United States

“Review Date: October 14th, 2015 First impressions are hard to change… If you live in Illinois at all, you know of the budget cuts, budget cuts, tax increases, budget cuts. Jubilee College State Park is one of those that has been hit by budget cuts. Decided to check this place and Jubilee Cafe out in the same day. My first time there, I encountered a few areas that were closed due to inadequate staffing. So a lot of places have become overgrown and broken down. This state park is beautiful and it’s a shame that it is in such a bad shape. While looking up some info on it to write this short blog, it appears that after 3 years they finally have a (volunteer?) Park Ranger and a volunteer group to help clean the place up and make it usable. Having never been here, I tried quite a few different places that I thought were openings to go hiking, but I really never could tell what was what since everything was overgrown. Now if this volunteer group is helping out and making the place a bit friendlier, I would love to go back and check it out again. Maybe even update this blog post. I just hope I don’t have to mark it ‘Closed’. It fills me with such sorrow that beautiful recreational places like these are cut short on budgets and fall into disuse. I won’t get into politics, but I hope they figure something out and restore this park and all the other closed/understaffed to their rightful natural beauty.”

12th Street Beach

1200 S Linn White Dr, Chicago, IL 60605, United States

“12th St., Beach. It’s a nice place to cool down in a hot city just adjacent to the museum area of Chicago. This little gem of a beach is a great spot for an afternoon picnic or a full day of playing and swimming. Sanders clean the water is clear the lifeguarding is good and there’s even a little snack shack to get some treats for a long hot day”

Kathy Osterman Beach House At Hollywood Beach
4.6
( 16 reviews )
Open until 11:59 PM

5800 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60660, United States

“LGBTQIA2S+ friendly large beach, with clean & spacious bathroom facilities, water fountains, volleyball court poles & concessions. Don’t be surprised to find topless women or people dressed in bondage in the daytime. No one blinks an eye because everyone minds their own business & are just comfortable being themselves. Only downside to this beach is parking can be a little tough, but there is free parking around if you’re willing to walk.”

“STUNNING park with easy, free parking right by the lake, nice walking trails, good cell service, and a little beach. You can even see the skyline in the distance. Nice place to park our RV for a few hours and just relax.”

Fort Defiance State Park

“A wonderful place to see the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, large barges moored and piloted, a memorial to Lewis and Clark visiting the site. A very natural area with a parking lot at the entrance and a drive to almost the confluence when gate is open. A peaceful location to sit and contemplate the pace of life back in the day.”

Rosewood Beach

“Wow! There’s a playground ON the beach. It blew my daughters mind. We went there on a Sunday afternoon where a parking spot was easy to find. Bathrooms are clean and the views are incredible. There are walking trails around the beach and near the parking lot.”

Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course

3701 N Recreation Dr, Chicago, IL 60613, United States

“Course is a really neat course in the city. Was cool to golf with skyscrapers all around on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. It's a city ran course so conditions are as good as you'd expect for a city ran course.”
