“Note: The hotel is not where Google says it is - go past this spot and carry on along the road for 1/2 mile. If you are visiting the Harz Mountain region, and you want a luxury hotel at a reasonable price, then this is the hotel for you. I have been working in this region for a year, and I stayed in many other hotels before I found the Park. I can recommend especially the rooms with balconies 11, 14,15 and 19 (19 is shower only - the others have baths with showers). Most other rooms have baths, which is unusual for a German hotel. It was originally a spa, and the rooms have high ceilings and would be loved by Agatha Christie as a location for one of her novels. The food is excellent, and if they know a guest is English, they translate the menu beforehand. There is no set menu - even when very few guests are staying, there is a choice of main courses - and superbly cooked. Dishes are much more international than the other hotels I stayed in. However, like most German restaurants, they like to finish taking orders at 8pm. The hotel is difficult to find without sat-nav, but there are signs along the lane through the woods. It is a perfect base for a good holiday touring the region, with the walled mediaeval city of Mulhausen (Thuringia) about an hour away, the Cistercian abbey of Walkenreid and the old town of Ellrich very close by, Nordhausen's old V1 and V2 slave labour production tunnels within 15 minutes, and the fantastic steam train up Brocken mountain available from many nearby stations such as Ilfeld (buy your ticket by card on the train). Further away are sites such as the World Heritage town of Stolberg, Sondershausen with a lovely old centre, the Kyffhauser monument, Bad Frankenhausen with a tower leaning more than that at Pisa, the Harz mountains themselves, Goslar and Quedlinburg. I have even used it as a base for a day trip to Leipzig. Try the local dry red German wine "Dornfelder trocken"!”

There is another star deduction for the lousy WiFi. The third star deduction is for a billing error (double room with single occupancy was calculated as a double room with double occupancy).
