“The Bear is a traditional hotel, comfortable with good service. We had lunch in the lounge bar. The service was friendly and informal but efficient and the atmosphere was lively but relaxed. We both had ham, egg with chips. The ham was local and the best I have had in a long time, thick cut and very tasty. The chips were excellent and the eggs were perfect. Although they were very busy the service was prompt and we were unhurried. Highly recommended”

The TV did not work and the kettle was temperamental. Room was small but the bed was very comfy and the shower was excellent. Staff very friendly.”

“Quite remote, nothing closeby other than a Co-Op. The place is big and pretty, service is very friendly, and they allowed our dog to stay! The bed was huge and soft and comfy, there were pillows of varying softness, including one that was super cozy and perfect for me. The bathroom could use a renovation, but counter space and lighting were good! Dead spider on ceiling and a live spider on the corner 😖. Room needs a new coat of paint.”

“For a very last minute trip to Swansea, I was really pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The room was a great size for a family of 3 and was clean. Would have been nice to have a little fridge but of course you get what you pay for and for the price we paid to also include breakfast, was great. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall a nice experience for our short one night stay. My only suggestion would be........bigger mugs at breakfast.”

“Attended a 1980's themed works Christmas function here. Lovely Hotel, comfy warm beds, cozy room, hot shower, great food - it was really fun and we all has a great night. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly throughout the night, despite the fact that is was a busy hectic evening. The hotel is in a lovely location within walking distance of the river, the castle and the pretty village of Brynbuga/Usk (though we didn't do that this time). I would highly recommend a visit here.”

“I cannot say enough about this place. Great location, the staff are fantastic and the place is clean. The entertainment staff are fantastic (apparently if you name them individually they get a reward or recognition, but all of the ones we saw were great). Great swimming pool with the most proactive and alert lifeguards I've ever seen. Perhaps if I had to find a negative, our caravan was a bit grubby in places and missing those final touches. But overall ok. Our second visit and we will go back again I'm sure.”

“A lovely old building with plenty of character, rooms are very quirky and a little small as expected but the bed was very comfortable. The bar has an old style feel about it with NO 'Sports TV' woohoo! Breakfast was very good and we used our vouchers (received at check in) so worked out very cheap. Great to park the motorcycle in the courtyard. Disliked · Room 4 (top floor on the bar side). The room was dusty (poor house keeping) and had a number of issues. The most important, in the bathroom the floor tiles are broken and loose exposing the sharp edge of the ceramic tile. We got over it by leaving a towel on the floor but it needs to be repaired asap. The TV (which didn't work) and kettle are supplied by a four plug extension lead that was too short so using the spare plug sockets for the hair dryer or a phone charger was hazardous. There were no water classes in the room. I'd love to recommend it but the place needs some attention.”

“The staff were so friendly and helpful. The chef yesterday morning was great and very kindly cooked my nieces bacon the way she likes it - thank you. Breakfast was great, tasty and lots of choice. We had a little wait for a table to accommodate the 6 of us sitting together. Just wish there was a little more thought when preparing the rooms, 6 of us over 2 rooms, yet not enough towels, cups/mugs for us all, so had to ask reception staff for these - which they gave no problem but after a 4hr drive we just wanted to shower and get into our pj's. The rooms are standard, comfy, and clean. A couple of niggles for me, the hair body wash pump is so small it takes ages to pump a tidy amount out to be able to wash our hair properly. Could also hear running water a lot, guessing it's from rooms above, but luckily, it didn't affect our sleep. It's in a great location., with plenty of parking (£5 per 24hrs).”

Staff were attentive ( while bringing food out) and friendly, one improvement I would say is we would have had more drinks if we'd have been asked, as it got a bit confusing weather it was table service or we where to go to the bar ourselves which was difficult for anyone sat against the window to get in and out. Food was a bit slow coming out but understandable with a large group of 11 adults and 4 children. Food was all very tasty and cooked really well, I had the scotch egg, turkey and Christmas pudding. Will definitely be going back again soon and recommending to friends. Thank you for a great festive meal.”
