Good beers and friendly clientele made for a welcome retreat from a (very) wet day outside.”

“We stayed here for just one night. It was excellent. Perfectly decorated for Christmas with a tastefully decorated large Christmas tree which is hugged by the gorgeous grand staircase. All the staff were helpful and delightful. Our room was upgraded which was a lovely surprising seeing as we were there for a birthday treat. We stayed in the main building. The room was huge with a spotless bathroom. We had a 3 course dinner. All the food was lovely and we had cocktails in the cozy bar after. The views from the restaurant when we had breakfast the next day were a bonus. We took a walk around the grounds before check out to take in the view. I just wished I could of stayed here longer. Well done for running a hotel that has so much history and character whilst still being cozy and clean”

“I found this an ideal place to relax in the heart of the New Forest and close to the sea. There is entertainment every night for both adults and children. There is a choice between caravans and lodges (I stayed in a lodge). I enjoyed the use of the gym (Very well equipped and free for guests), the indoor swimming pool and steam room (again free for guests although you may need to queue to enter during busy periods). “Currently staying here for our wedding weekend. We had a rather large booking for food last night before the big day. The food and service was amazing! We’d been given our own room which was great for everyone to be able to talk to each other and hear all conversations away from other tables in the restaurant. Can’t thank the staff enough for how the night went. They checked on us between courses to ensure the night was going well. I’m sure they would have been very accommodating had a problem occurred but everything was perfect! Just to add the rooms are incredible. Extremely clean, little extras in the room are a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend and stay here again if we have another event or just want a weekend away. Thank you all again.”

“We have just returned after coming for lunch today. We were warmly greeted by a very lovely member of staff who made sure we were happily seated. Although there wasn't a kids menu there was a couple of off menu options that the chef was happy to prepare for the kids. Myself and the other 3 adults that were part of our group thoroughly enjoyed our food. It was freshly cooked, full of flavour and the portions were incredible. I highly recommend the Steak and Kidney pudding , it was beautiful. Desserts were beautiful too. I look forward to coming again to try some of the fantastic food on offer.”

“We were staying in the area, so as it was my husbands birthday and having read such great reviews, we thought we'd give it a try. The decor was lovely, as were the staff. We arrived approx 45 minutes before the kitchen closed. Which might explain why our meal wasn't as good as the reviews stated. Everything tasted and felt like it had been kept for hours in a warmer. The roasted potatoes were so hard that they were inedible. The vegetables were cold. One carrot sliced in half does not equate to a portion of veg. I feel we would have been better off going to a fast food chain. To add to that, it was cold where we sat, with no heating.”

“I was a guest at a wedding last weekend. Beautiful grounds and lovely picturesque building. The bedrooms were nice and spacious, lovely firm mattress! The food for the wedding was brilliant and a good selection for breakfast. The staff were helpful and friendly for the whole visit, the gardens were beautiful and there was plenty of garden games for the kids too! The only downside was a small carpark but there was alot of guests. We were recommended the afternoon tea many times so we will be back to try that soon!”

“Great location only a short walk to the cathedral. We came for the Christmas markets. Check in was easy, the lady was very nice and helpful. We booked 2 rooms but we were on separate floors so the lady tried to put us together but was not able to do so. We paid extra for a garden view, our room was right at the very end of the corridor as far as you can go so our view directly outside our window was just a tree, if you looked left you could see the garden but seeing as the windows barely opened because of safety locks we couldn't see properly. We reserved dinner for 8pm, we didn't get seated until 8.15 and our meals didn't come out until 9pm! All of our meals were very nice! No complaints on the meals, we also had dessert which again was lovely. Breakfast was really lovely, hot buffet and pastries with tea coffee machine, I was a bit disappointed there was no apple juice (other juices were available) but I made do with my coffee. Beds are super soft, comfy and rooms were clean although our friend's room smelt of damp. When checking out we we asked for longer parking which we were told was £10 for the day rate even though the signage states £8 and the lady the day before told us it would be £8. When we mentioned it the young man ignored us and then said that was the old prices, when we said they needed to be updated etc he just ignored us again. We ended up paying £22 for parking £12 for overnight (signage says £10) and then £10 for the extra 2 hours that we needed. Overall I would say this hotel doesn't cope well when it is full. I overheard a member of staff saying they were full. Lady at the check in desk was also working the bar in the evening and clearly didn't really know what she was doing but she was apologetic and tried her best.”

“A great stay, this is a gem of a hotel to find, amazing with dogs too. The hotel is situated directly next to many of the hiking or biking trials from the front door. Their attention to detail is the best Ive seen, they have loan wellies of every size from baby to adult! They left dog bowl, bed and towels in our room, reserved us a dog friendly table in the bar area, so many nice sweet touches you dont even find in 5 star hotels. The handyman/groundskeeper was very helpful with storing our bikes, all the staff were very pleasant, chatty and full of tips and advice for the area. We ate the restaurant menu in the var area, the food was very good, only the cheese board needs more soft cheeses ! The room was ground floor and opened to the gardens, just little thoughts like this for dog guests made it so special. Highly recommend this stay, well done the entire team.”

“We only visited the bistro bar for afternoon tea. It was very nice, but failed to truly amaze me. The staff were very attentive, however some advertised menu items did not arrive, forcing us to enquire about the missing items. The decor looked a little tired, but the bistro was still full of character and the afternoon tea was more plentiful than most could consume. Parking was a little crowded and cramped, but the car survived without 'car park scuffs'. While the afternoon tea at Hotel Du Vin, Winchester, was very pleasant, I felt the afternoon tea at the Four Seasons, Fleet, was a far more exceptional experience in comparison.”
