“This place is very special. It’s a hidden gem that I want to keep all to myself but they deserve the business from everyone. The service is phenomenal and the rooms are updated and well maintained with very nice views. The staff are absolutely wonderful and attentive, from the restaurant, to the front desk, to the cleaning crew, to the porters. The location is a bit away from the popular touristy areas but still good. There is no train station in this town but the ferry is right in front of the hotel and taxis are easy to obtain (or you can rent a car). The area itself is beautiful and peaceful and quiet at night (the restaurants all shut down before midnight so no real nightlife). Staying here is like living inside a dream. A great place for artists, dreamers, and those that want to immerse themselves in a picturesque Italian coastal town, while still staying in luxurious and convenient accommodations.”

The hotel itself was in a great location, the views are incredible, our room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast bar had many delicious options too! “Really nice location if you want to pamper yourself a little. Stunning view. We had a lodge. Restaurant attached. Food was good, the waiter a little confused and we did not get all our food at the same time. The lodge itself is nice enough but renovations are needed, especially in the bathroom (really not acceptable in a 4 star residence). Lots of German people here. Breakfast was yummy (apart from apricots). I would have been happy to join a Yoga lesson, but there are only individual lessons offered. Lovely also for honeymoon. Nothing else around, so bring enough water and some insect repellant. Friendly staff, family friendly 😀. We loved the pool”

“Nice hotel with super friendly staff in a great location. Small walk (6 minutes) from the train station and directly across from a private beach (can enter but you have to pay). Staff is really helpful and friendly and will give you ideas on what to do if you aren't sure what to do. Had a great time. Only cons are the rooms are a little small and you can hear the trains but not that loud. I would definitely come back and get a room with the ocean view.”

“We have mixed feelings about Hotel Birillo. On the one hand, the hotel is located perfectly in La Spezia. Everything is within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and spoke English fluently. On the other hand, the bathroom was tiny and in quite bad shape. The shower head kept falling off and the toilet flushed irregularly. What's worst, the bathroom had no window or ventilation. Mold was building up between the tiles and behind the water reservoir. Also, the walls and doors are paper thin. Therefore, our room was noisy during day and night time. We could hear everything happening inside the rooms on the floor and could even understand individual dialogues. We could've dealt with the minor inconveniences, but the mold is a health concern and unacceptable for 130€ per night.”
