“We really enjoyed our stay at the Wellem. Overall the rooms were clean, the cleaning and hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The built in closets were great for quick organizing and the kitchen had everything you'd need. The room coffee system was fantastic and was refilled daily :D. Walking distance to the Christmas market, museums, and local restaurants. The only issue we had was with the quick grab pantry being closed, there was no way to get a quick snack if you needed something outside of the kitchen hours, which were limited. They do have restaurants, but there were not all "in" the building and lacked kid friendly foods. I also needed to use the business center that did not exist. The hotel did have a standing desk area with a computer (only), and could print if needed. Not a deal breaker, but helpful to know if you need to work while there. If in the area, I will stay here again based on the location of the hotel and the accommodating staff. I would give 5 stars, but today I went to the reception to ask a question, the young girl was rude and did not answer my question. She started to ask me questions. Poor communication skills. Did not listen to the customer. Then she blocked my key do not open the door to my room. It was 11:30 am. Chek out is 12. Thank God my friend was in the room. Otherwise, I would have to come back to the reception. This is very vicious.”

They could at-least checked I did my check out but they called after 3 hours to tell me that in very rude manner over the phone. It is very obnoxious hotel and behaviour from The hotel. I will sue them for racism.! So That this does not happen in the future ! They made a racist comment when we said we are from London and that we are not part of the EU. “Friends Zeche Zollverein is situated at, almost literally, a stone throw distance from the Zollverein grounds. The location is excellent, but the parking price is, at 10 euro a bit steep if you're just spending one night there. Three stars for the rooms; and that is a bit personal. The room we had was painted in an anthracite color. That color fits into the coal mine theme of the hotel, but lends a very gloomy feel to the location. Also there was no mini bar and, for some reason, there was a window in the shower indirectly facing the room's window. Depending on your inclination towards privacy, that was a bit odd. The breakfast was pricey, but we found out that was the case for all hotels in the surroundings. When we visited (14-08), however, there was no seating available for breakfast and we had to sit in one of the meeting rooms. No big problem, but for €19,50 p.p. one would expect to at least have a table to sit at. Overall, the experience was very good still, but for the hotel's pricepoint one could expect a bit more.”
