“We went here for an evening meal for my birthday after hearing great things. Honestly, what an absolutely delicious meal. I would say it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Perfection. Everything was just outstanding. Even the tomato!! It was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service was excellent and the pub itself is a classic Devon pub. Welcoming and cozy. We cannot wait to get back there. Top marks all round.”

“Stayed for a new year party here. Staff were excellent and attentive to people in attendance. Staff seemed to be professional and helpful throughout. Had a dinner and dance event. Drinks were reasonably priced. Food we had was not as good as it could be. Beef was tough to eat. Starter was great. Dessert was unremarkable. The breakfast was very good. We had a DJ for the event who was only ok but we had a good time dancing. The room we had was clean although was in need of a serious update. Bar area was clean and relaxed. There was no quiet space if people wanted to sit out of the main dance area which needs to be rectified. The live singer they had was very good and was a pleasure to listen to and I would have preferred to have danced to her singing. Had a great time with friends and although there are some shortcomings it was a relaxing event to attend.”

“My better half and I recently stayed following a family wedding. The room was well appointed/decorated, clean and tidy etc. The drinks were a little pricy, but not over the top. The food was very nice, the service good, and the breakfast tasty and plentiful. If I was being picky I would suggest two possible areas of improvement, the shower was underwhelming. Some of the stairs and floorboards are squeaky/noisy, not an easy fix I appreciate, and probably more of a personal annoyance than an issue.”

“Well , what can I say. We were going to stay here and then Covid lockdown started and then we forgot about this place. Booked again yesterday for afternoon tea. Well what can I say, it will not disappoint you , they treat you like ladies and lord. Staff calls you by your last name. Afternoon tea is not cheap like other people said , but it is an experience , I would book it again for a special occasion , and we will be booking it for a dinner in near future. Welcoming place , now I can see what Alex means. Ladies remember to dress nicely and gentlemen to wear a nice shirt. There is no dress code , but it will enhance your experience. Enjoy 😊”

“Free parking. Good location if you're touring around North Devon. The room was of a good size. I had an email after booking/before the visit to advise that the Brewers Fayre next door was closed for refurbishment so no food would be available, but we were happily surprised when we got there to hear it reopened that morning. We had to wait a fair while for someone to come to reception when we arrived, despite calling for attention. The room was very damp and smelt a bit because of that. Mould could be seen on the ceiling. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you have breathing issues. Windows couldn't open even a crack, and had a lot of condensation on them in the morning. Not too bad a place for the low price and to stay for only 1 night.”
