“Stonecloud is one of my go-to breweries in OKC. I can always rely on them to have at least one or two tasty IPAs on tap. Their location on the west side, inside the old Sunshine Laundry/Cleaner building, is very tastefully done, and certainly a nod to historic preservation. The lit historic rooftop neon sign is testimony to this. My heart skips a beat or two each time I see that gorgeous sign. I was surprised on a recent Friday night to find the place practically empty. In fact, there was only one car parked out front, which caused me to get out quickly to check the hours of operation on the door. Turns out I just found them at a quiet moment. That said, I was able to engage in great convo with the bartender, who gave me his insights into the beers. I started with a slender glass of Queen of Slams, an Imperial DIPA (8% ABV). This looked and tasted a lot like a mimosa, but was all beer. Delightful! Brunch, anyone? Next on tap was Mellow, a Cold IPA (7% ABV), which I found to be a very solid rendition of this recent trend among brewers. Cold IPAs have a distinctive taste that is hard to pin down, but you know it when you taste it. Maybe it is the somewhat malty finish. In any regard, I highly recommend this one. My bartender (whom I had for 1-on-1 convo after the last people left) then gave me a sampler of Desk Pop, a Triple IPA (15.6% ABV), which was tasty, but I knew I could never hoist a pint or two of these and be able to drive. Sip slowly and get a short pour. Lastly, said bartender offered a sample of PHOever Yum, a delightfully tasty sour (only 4.3% ABV). It was a great hour and a half here, and I strongly encourage OKC beer travelers to give Stonecloud a try. This is among the best there is in town.”

“If any brewery is known for pushing limits, it is Prairie Artisan Ales. Known far and wide for their sours (I counted 10 on the menu recently at the Prairie OKC location on NE 8th), they have ventured nicely into other varietals as well. I was especially taken with their IPAs. While Prairie does not offer flights, you can still order short pours, which achieves the same end ultimately. It’s kind of like having a flight, but without the serving tray. And so I did, with the following quartet of amazing brews: OH to OK (IPA; 6.7% ABV; 112 IBU), Slovenian Slammer (NEIPA; 7.1% ABV; unknown IBU), New Year, New Me (NEIPA; 7.2% ABV; unknown IBU), and Euro Pils (Pilsner; 5% ABV; unknown IBU). The Pilsner was actually a great finish to my evening, after all the happiness of the first three. Back in Texas, I have also had their Y’all IPA on tap, and it too is delicious. I like how Prairie has managed to brew accessible beers that do not upset the sensibilities of the average craft beer warrior. To me that means beer that I could have a few refills, not having to worry about my ability to get home. The high-alcohol varieties some breweries love to wow patrons with are just not high on my list. I would have had more than my four short pours, but I was on a six-hour, four-brewery tour (with dinner in between), and thus pacing myself. This is a definite must-return, especially since it is only a block or so from another strong craft brewery. Oh, and pickle ball in the same building? Now we’re talking.”

“This place is awesome! One of Tulsas hidden gems. We had a large group of us show up and the staff was extremely helpful on picking the right beers to our taste. They have something for everyone. The prices are great for a craft beer and especially for how good the beers are. They treated us all like family and they have a great outdoor area with fire pits and games. I will be coming back and say hi to Johnny when you get there!! :-)”
