Kwangchow Restaurant
4.3
( 8 reviews )

241 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui 3116, New Zealand

“I don't recommend anybody to eat there. Nothing of the food was tasty, the rice was old and not cooked through. Nobody asked if we want something to drink. In the fish tank is nothing apart from water, 2 fish and one half-dying fish. That's cruel. All in all it was a disgusting expirience.”

“Went there today with a group of 13 people for an 80th birthday. The food was buffet and very fresh and delicious. The staff were really attending to the tables with dishes but not over the top and hovering. The views are amazing as well. It was a really enjoyable lunch, we were all so full.”

“It was an impromptu trip to Timaru for my husband's birthday. We drive around and found this place. The staff were lovely although it took a while to understand that dinner was only buffet style. Being called a Teppanyaki and grill place, you would think that you will be treated to a meal with some entertainment. But no, take note that it's a menu selection that you can choose whatever you like on the menu. Interesting concept. It's good if you go in a group and get to try all the dishes on the menu! The restaurant was spacious. Unfortunately, the floors and tables are sticky. Some of their menus needed to be cleaned too as it was sticky. The lights in the ladies toilet was out..I couldn't even see a lightbulb in the ceiling. Aside from the atmosphere. The food is surprisingly good. We ordered most things on the menu to try. And all were good. Just the teppan pork was slightly chewy and the beef takaki was not thinly sliced enough, so slightly chewy too. Overall, food 4 stars and the service was lovely which gives it 5. It's unfortunate, that the atmosphere makes it hard to enjoy it fully. ##Amended Add on##: It was really disappointing that we found out when we got home that our two kids were charged full price, even though we were told that both of them were half price. We don't always scrutinize the bills as we often trust the restaurant to be vigilant with their charging. Since it was a head count of 3 adults and 2 kids. We didn't think we need to doubt their charging. Again, disappointing. Especially when it was a birthday celebration. I've revised the service rating down slightly.”

“It was so loud here that I had a panic attack when eating. The patrons are yelling over each other, and the staff do nothing about it. The food is 10/10, but the price range is more like $30-$50 per person”

“Nice Mongolian buffet dinner. Variety of entre like fries, nuggets, eggs, fry rice, pasta etc. Main course is the BBQ hot plate (like Teppan yaki) with your choice of meat, pasta, noodles, salads, oils, sauces etc. Finish with a lovely ice cream and pan cakes dessert topped with chocolates, caramel syrup, marsh mellows, jelly beans etc. Bit noisy with crowded restaurant and functions. Very hard working staff. Lovely customer service with a smile by Riteshni and the chef made the experience a good memory. 🙏❤️ P. S. Very good rule "$5 fine for any food wastage on the table" unfortunately it's not enforced 😕”
