“If you’re craving some good Dominican food this is the place to be. Moved here from the northeast where Dominican food was part of my regular rotation so finding a good place in Chicago has been perfect. When I’m a bit homesick I pop in for Dominican breakfast of mangu, salami, fried cheese, and eggs topped with pickled onions and it always hits the spot. When I’m feeling fancy I order an oxtail plate and it’s delicious. It’s small and cozy, music playing while you eat. Service is nice and if you don’t know Spanish, it’s easy enough to make it work.”

The Tiki Terrace

“What a neat experience. This is definitely something unique to the area. If you’re looking a fun, different and family friendly activity this is a must do. It is reservation only. The show is at 8:30 with seating and dinner at 7:30 or sooner depending on group size. It is 3 courses and show that are included in price. The drinks and food were okay, but overall good experience.”

“Walking into the place, it reminded me of visiting my mom's house, as the smell of Puerto Rican food could not be denied. Looking at the menu, I saw so many twists on classic American staples. My friend and I decided to go classic with …”

“As a native Puerto Rican I was excited to go here. It wasnt super happy w my visit. Upon getting there parking was challenging and it was not a busy time of the day. Then we get there and there are tons of signs on the door of “we don’t do this or that, etc.” which I found to be tacky. 1 sign I get, but so many. Not a good first impression. Then service was not the best. The waiter although nice didn’t know much about the menu. We had to constantly ask for things multiple times to finally get them (salt, napkins, silverware, etc). I asked the waiter if he certain things had pork bc I dont eat pork or raw onions (allergic)and was told no and both pork and raw onions were on one of my dish. I ordered a sampler and it didnt have all the items described on the menu. Ordered a few other appetizers, he completely forgot to bring them to us. Then the main dish I ordered was chicken pinchos which are always made w chicken breast, well these were made with drum sticks which I was disappointed bc it should of said that on the menu. My friend had shrimp and the Shrimp had an odd taste like if they were old Shrimp and they were rubbery. Was the food flavorful? Yes. Was service good? Nope. There was a collection of too many little issues that just made my visit unpleasant. These dishes felt like a non-Puerto Rican that has no clue of what authentic PR food is like, trying to sell PR food. Waiter was polite and decor was nice but Would I return here? Absolutely not.”

“My family frequents this location even though we have another location five minutes away from our home. I love their food, but after my catering experience, I won't be back. I ordered and paid for a large tray of jerk chicken for my family for Christmas on December 23rd. I was asked if could I pick it up before 4 pm, and I said, sure. When I arrived at 3:15pm there was a crowd in the waiting area. I knew I may have a wait because it was Christmas Eve, and everyone else was doing the same as me. I let the young lady at the register know my last name and what I ordered. She said it would be coming up. I overheard people saying they had been there since 1:30, and I knew it was going to be a problem. They allowed people to keep coming in to place orders while 30 people or more were waiting for their catered orders. The staff kept telling people their orders were coming up in 15-20 minutes. There was no organization, just a bunch of chaos. People were furious, and they had every right to be. There was one lady who was trying her best to help people. After three hours of waiting, I was offered a drink. I ended up waiting three and half hours to get a large tray of jerk chicken. If it wasn't Christmas Eve and I could have placed my order somewhere else in time, I would have asked for a refund. Their food is amazing, but the service that day was awful. They need someone over operations to make sure this never happens again.”

Shrimp Island

“The food was absolutely amazing. Huge scallops, smelts, and shrimps. Portions were extremely generous. Had a chance to meet the owner Justin. He’s probably one of the nicest human beings you can meet. Shrimp Island is a fantastic establishment. Please give them a try and I promise you won’t regret it.”
