Saryo Housen
4.5
( 8 reviews ) $$

Japan, 〒606-0861 Kyoto, Sakyo Ward, Shimogamo Nishitakagicho, 25

“Great store. A must visit if you go to Kyoto. The 1,400 yen warabi mochi has a unique softness and elasticity that combines the flavors of warabi powder, sugar, and water to create an incredible texture. What made it successful is probably the result of spirit. The garden and building create a quiet space on their own, and there are no noisy guests, so you can spend a peaceful time. This is Kyoto. It's a store that's beginner-friendly. I think you can eat about 2 cups per person. Kuri Shiruko, which is only available in autumn, has the best chestnut soup in shiruko, but the chestnuts inside don't match well, and each one would be delicious if eaten alone, but it's a waste of food.”

“Love the atmosphere here. The food was great too. They are famous for the toast that is filled with many veggies, meat and egg. But I personally prefer the egg sandwich more :)”

Tea Ceremony Camellia Flower

Closed until 10:00 AM

349-12 Masuyacho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0826, Japan

“This was a nice tea ceremony. I felt like it was so short ~45 minutes with the teacher. She herself was a student! It was nice to hear her mention her school and mentor. I booked this online about 30 days prior (when the reservations open up). It was ¥3300 per person for the tea ceremony and ¥5000 per person for kimono rental. The kimono rental is at another location, so we went there first. It was only two minutes walking from our hotel, Park Hyatt Kyoto, which is why I selected this company. We arrived at the tea house early, so we waited in the waiting room. We had to remove shoes before entering the building. Their AC was broken, but it was much cooler inside than outside. When they were ready, they took our group up the stairs. We sat on the floor on mats the whole time. If you sit to the left of the teacher, you get to be special. Everyone gets to make and drink a small amount of the matcha tea. This was fun to try once. I wouldn't do it again. I actually really liked the jelly dessert that was served. I need to find out where to buy those!”

“綺麗な店。Amazing coffee and matcha in a beautiful building, well equipped for co-working peacefully and comfortably. I wish I had something to 3D print or cut while I was here! I’m sure the events hosted here are also quite fun. Definitely one of the best coffee shops in Kyoto”

Maeda Coffee - Kodai-ji Temple
4.1
( 8 reviews ) $$
Open until 04:00 PM

415-2 Minamimachi, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, 605-0824, Japan

“A great place to grab breakfast by Kiyomizu-dera. It's walkable distance from the temple grounds and the little shops that line streets. You have choice of a few breakfast sets which come with a drink. I choose the cheese toast set which was delicious! Comes with a salad and mashed potatoes. Wait wasn't long and our waiter was courteous and prompt. You can also buy artisanal ground coffee here if you like.”

“We ordered egg sandwiches, cinnamon toast and iced au lait. Everything was delicious. The service was great. We enjoyed the view and atmosphere while we waited. Best egg sandwich I’ve tasted while visiting Japan. I had a delightful, peaceful time at this spot. Definitely my favorite breakfasts while here in Japan.”

Inoda Coffee - Hachijo Exit Branch
3.8
( 16 reviews ) $$
Closed until 08:00 AM

8-3 Higashishiokoji Takakuracho, Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, 600-8215, Japan

“Ordinary coffee, ordinary toast. How can it not taste good when you sprinkle so much sugar on it?”

Hatoya Ryoyousha / 8108kyoto
4.3
( 8 reviews )

22-66 Sagaasahicho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-8343, Japan

“A Japanese tea stand in Arashiyama. Even though it is called Arashiyama, it takes quite a while to walk from Hankyu station. The nearest station is Kurumaori Shrine Station on the Keifuku Electric Railway Arashiyama Line. This small Japanese tea stand in front of the station and shrine is crowded with many customers, including people from overseas. Although it is primarily a take-out restaurant, there are some tables and chairs set up in front of the store and in front of the train tracks, so you can also eat there. ◎88 Pudding Awa Matcha What is contained in a transparent glass bowl is a smooth and plump pure white milk pudding. Add matcha espuma on top and it's done. The white milk pudding and green espuma are beautiful! Melting texture! And the taste of matcha is strong and amazing. A must-try dish for both tea lovers and pudding lovers. It's a little far from Arashiyama town, but you can walk if you put in the effort, so if you're interested in exploring Arashiyama, please go. Thank you for the meal!”
