“Board game cafe's tend to be either very nerdy with niche games (like a FLGS) or vary casual with mostly games like Cards against Humanity but this bar nicely sits in between: the crowd isn't a typical gamer crowd but the selection of games is also wider and more modern. Drinks and food at the bar are nice and the atmosphere of the place with many steampunk elements is quite cool. The service at the place was ok, we got a bit overlooked , but can't blame too much for a place so busy even on a Sunday night. Lastly the collection of games was a little disappointing. Many of the modern classics were there but there were also just a ton of games you expect to find in a dollar bin at a thrift store which shouldn't be in a place like this I feel. The collection of playable games is also quite chaotic and the category of accessible 2 player games which you expect most at stores like these was a bit lacking.”

“The gallery begins with typically boring sculptures of naked people. We are in Italy after all. I’m not sure why they don’t just put these out on the street, like all the other naked sculptures so they’d have a free extra floor, but that’s just my opinion. It got significantly better from there, with fantastic artworks from Prampolini, divided into different genres of his art, intelligently displaying the broad scope of his life’s work. It’s interesting to see just how influential modern Italian art is on modern design. The Peruzzi exhibition in the top floor was amazing, and really captures the Futurismo style. It captivates the interesting diffusion of cubism from this style, and Peruzzis letters give a clue as to why futurismo lost steam while cubism continued (the war). His other works are also displayed.”

“Son of the better-known Virginio, Pope Pius IX's reference architect, Francesco Vespignani was called to build this splendid neo-Romanesque style church on the Aventine hill and he did so admirably following the project of the Benedictine abbot de Hemptinne. The mystical aura of Gregorian chants pervades the entire space of the church, rising up to the vault and then descending again to heights more suited to the human soul. A beautiful bronze statue of Sant'Anselm stands out inside the quadriporticus at the entrance to the church. The mosaics that embellish the apse are the work of a very talented German monk. The wooden ceiling adds value to the entire architectural structure of the church.”

I know they do events in there, but it is enjoyable simply from the outside and walking near it. In fact, many people exercise right in front, even in groups, and there's street art and lots of stray cats too. lt's so much part of the landscape of the area.”

“The service alone is with coming to this place! As well as the chic outdoor decor on the rooftop. This is definitely a special occasion place. The atmosphere and service are both excellent. The food was good, although there were several things with veggies that were not in season which is rare in Italy. I do wish I’d gotten a photo of the Parmesan donut? It was so good and not at all what I expected! The wine list will make *sure* you pay for that view so be ready to spend no less than €75 for any bottle - at least that’s how much the Calafuria (a delicious rosato that I’ve never paid more than €50 for at a restaurant - and regularly see it for €25). We went with a Franciacorta rosato since we were celebrating and it *was* superb. All that being said, I would 100% go back again (and again!).”
