“I had meals here a few times. The food is as fantastic as usual. The service was good. The staffs are friendly, polite and take care of the customers always. I highly recommend the starters. I've tried many of them but didn't try the deep fired cabbage ball because I'm not fond of cabbage. All the starters I've tried were so impressive. I like the Laksa noodle and pineapple fried rice a lot as well. If you like spicy food, creamy and coconut milk, try the Laksa noodle . Also, the desserts were very nice. I don't see taro pancakes/ sweet potato balls with ice cream in another place.”

“A QUICK LUNCH Popped into “The Ox” for some lunch at the weekend. The food is freshly cooked and was brilliant, nice looking, nicely presented and really tasty. We had 1 Shin beef pie with mash & 1 Fish and chips all washed down with a bottle of red. Only complaint would be the colourful language coming from the kitchen, one chef has clearly been watching Gordon Ramsey too much! Food was great though so we will definitely be back.”

“Waited 39 minutes for our order (which was literally just two bagels) and the bagels were lukewarm and “ok” - nothing to write home about! The server didn’t advise there would be a wait, and it wasn’t until I queried it after 20 mins (when I heard 2 other table say they’d been waiting half an hour) did they say that ours “wouldn’t be long but there are 3 orders in front of you”. When I asked how long orders usually take she said “oh 5-10mins” so no idea why it took 40 minutes. Also planned to eat in but by the time we got the food had to go move the car as had only limited time parking. Won’t be back, really disappointing”

“My husband and I visited Scotland from Florida, USA. We had the most wonderful experience at Heron. We sat at the corner of the bar and each did the full tasting with wine pairings. Our bartender/server was from Chicago and was so kind and helpful. Each person that brought us a dish gave the most wonderful detailed explanations of each component. Our sommelier was out of this world. You could feel his passion for what he does and his knowledge was vast. My husband and I did different wine pairings so it was fun to try both along with each dish. Overall, an excellent experience. The service and attention we were provided along with the exceptionally delicious dishes will make this a meal we will not forget. Thank you, Heron!”

“Went in to grab a waffle after getting some blood tests done so I could get sugar into my system. And had a great experience from the server she couldn’t have been more lovely and helpful. Prior to this a kid had attempted to scare someone walking by Edinburgh university. I happened to be going towards scoopz and the costume shop by st Patrick square and this kid also happened to be going in this direction. He ran into scoopz and I decided to stop and look at the menu before ordering my waffle (which by the way is delicious). After this I left and went to go look at Halloween costumes and left that shop on my way not realising this kid had followed me to the costume shop and was still following me down south side area towards south bridge. At first I heard a voice shouting about “the south side p*do” language obscured for Google) and thought nothing of it continued on my way. I stopped by Edinburgh bargain stores as they have masks in the window also and as I was looking left noticed the same kid who shouted “how does it feel to touch kids” at me. At this point i decided to return to the store and ask the server if he happened to be her child, she said no. I explained the situation and what had happened prior to her. However I’d appreciate if scoopz could confirm if he’s in any way associated with the business ie by way of family connection etc. as I forgot to ask that. If so id appreciate a discussion with the owner(s) about this situation to rectify it and get an apology at the very least. Likely to not return to the business due to that particular experience until things are clarified.”

“Lively atmosphere. Spent an evening here after a Christmas meal out with about 12 work colleagues. We had the upstairs area with the large table all to ourselves. Service was a bit lagging, but it was busy and during the Christmas party season. Music was too loud for polite conversation, but the atmosphere was vibrant. Drinks are the usual Edinburgh prices which can be a bit of a sharp intake of breath when you're not expecting them. Probably a good watering hole to take refuge in for a quick drink as you're on your way to the real party.”
