For those looking for a longer walk, you can start around the visitor centre and wind down to the lake where you can make a complete loop around it, ending back at the main entrance.”

“This place is really good and only on our doorstep. Only explored about a mile up but if your kids love throwing rocks in the river you could spend all day doing just that. Easy route. Bring wellies if it has rained and you can stride in the river to the islands across. Car park is small but its without bays so Has potential for enough cars. I arrived in the mid afternoon and there was a few spaces left. Plus its free so bonus. Reccomend this place if you just want a simple stroll on a weekend before tea.”

“Devils Point Park, also known as Western Kings, borders the waters of Plymouth Sound and the Tamar River which form a European Marine Site, made up of a Special Area of Conservation and a Special Protection Area. Also has a direct access from the yard, via the Stairway to Devon opened in 2013 and is part of the South West Coast Path. For centuries, families have said goodbye or welcomed loved ones on Royal Navy ships heading to and from Devonport Dockyard. Today, it is a great place to relax and watch the activity on the water, watch the boats go by or enjoy its nature and wildlife.”

“An incredibly clean beach. It was a pleasure to sit on. The tide was out when I went there but the little pools it left behind were lovely and warm. I paddled for quite a long time in these pools. It felt like walking on the surface of the moon such was the untouched nature. You can see the mountains of the Lake District in the distance too”

“Wow! What an amazing place. I have visited Lyme Regis many times, and until a friend told us about the Ammonite pavement I had no idea it existed. It is incredible with ammonites on the beach everywhere you look and then once you scramble across the rocks you get to the pavement. It is a protected site so you cannot take a hammer or chisel to any of the ammonites.”

“Well set up with good amenities, camping areas are subdivided which helps contain the kids a bit and provides a little privacy. There's water within 20m of each of pitch. The toilet & shower blocks are no distance (compared with other sites). Several in our group indulged in the freshly baked pastries you can book to be delivered in the morning. We enjoyed our stay with one exception ... the noise. We were near the back of the campsite, so 200m+ from the A507 road, and 250m+ from Arlesey train station but I almost laughed out loud when trying the sleep upon hearing a plane fly over head. On the weekend we visited, there was a cross-fit event on the Saturday with loud music from 8.05am (our kids had already woken us up). With exception of the cross-fit event, none of this can really be helped, it's just the location. If you want to come here to relax for some quiet time, bring some ear plugs. Between the road noise, trains, aircraft and wildlife chorus in the morning there is a constant din. I was able to sleep through much of it but my wife and others in our group had to use earplugs.”

“Very wild and windy but it was 31st December! Imagine it's much nicer for families in Summer. As a dog friendly beach we found it really good to wander along the seafront allowing our labrador freedom to run around when appropriate.”

“Nice little find on a Bank holiday Monday, a lot quieter than the more famous reservoirs. A good 6 mile walk if you take in the Arden reservoir at the other side of the village as well. Mostly level so can suit most abilities. Parked on the road at the south side and entered the path at one of the gaps along the road.”

“This is a lovely little fishery, we did originally pay for the speciamin lakes but ended up having more fun on jennys lake having the children with us. It's beautiful and clean. The fishing shop is well stocked and staff friendly. Jennys lake pats pool and sycamore are very short walks from the car. But even the other lakes are not a major walk. Quite lovely to walk around at sunset. I really enjoyed it here and can't wait to come back. 5 fish in a afternoon was a achievement on its own.”
