Russian Tea Time Restaurant
4.5
( 8 reviews ) $$

77 E Adams St, Chicago, IL 60603, United States

“The Russian Tea Room offers Peace from the rush of Chicago streets. Review is only for a filling snack. Sit for formal Tea Service or a pot of your own. Russian Tea Room offerers full lunches and dinner too. Opt for the Tea Platters of Finger Sandwiches with sweet baked treats and Scones. A few, I felt needed more fillings. I'll attest to their Borscht being the best I've eaten of the hundereds of food reviews I have made. Wishing I had more time to get back for dinner. The classical music is soothing and their staff is friendly. The cozy booths and interiors are reminiscent of traditional tea rooms. This Restaurant is a must! The many nationalities partaking for a full lunch indicates an appreciative authentic experience.”

“I liked many of the courses, especially some of the mushroom and fish based dishes. Unfortunately, nothing blew me away and for the price + Michelin rating, I was expecting more unique flavors profiles or techniques compared to dining at similar restaurants. The spirit free tasting was a nice complement to many of the dishes; the standard pairing was okay. The lowlight was that service was also surprisingly slow, with a gap of almost half an hour between two of our courses. The ambiance is nice and the interior is well decorated with a nice open view of the kitchen. Everyone was very friendly, but I think the amount you pay for the experience set the bar higher than was met for our dinner.”

“We were really excited to try this restaurant. I loved the decor and atmosphere. The food fell a bit short for me though. As odd as it sounds, the French toast was very, very sweet; I couldn't even use syrup with it. The overall taste of the French toast was good, the berries were a lovely addition as was the marscapone cheese. We also got a sandwich which was pretty good. I would likely go back, but I'd try something else.”

“Loved the burger! Mac and cheese was very delicious as well. I'm always on the lookout for the best burger and mac, this place is definitely one of the few top. It is dimly lit inside, but I liked the vibes. My partner got the lobster roll and didn't think the size of it justified the price, but he still enjoyed it.”

“Overall we did not have a very good dinner experience. The food was ok, overpriced for what it was, very long wait times, and lacking service. We waited 1.5 hours to get our main food, 45 min for our appetizers, all the while mostly being ignored by our waiter. The entire time the long wait was never acknowledged by our servers and we saw our server very rarely, so we couldn’t even order more drinks as we waited. He took our two drinks off the bill at the very end without any prompting, which is appreciated, though what I would prefer is better service *during the experience* and at the very least an acknowledgement of the poor wait times. Instead we sat there waiting for food, not knowing how much longer it was going to be, contemplating ordering another glass of wine if the wait was going to be much longer, but also not seeing our waiter the whole time. Then the food was just ok. Prices are WAY too high for what it is. Croquettes are good, but nothing special about them to justify the price in my opinion. $18 grilled halloumi was very small, quite simple, and a little bland. It was recommended by our waiter. My lamb bolognese linguine dish was fine. It was flavorful, but the noodles were a little over cooked and completely not worth $26, even for the higher end dining experience this establishment is going for and comparing to similar establishments in the area. The mussels were the standout dish and I would recommend those. The ambiance is the best part, with a warm and inviting old European vibe going on. Maybe we’ll be back to try some of the other items, but most likely not for a full sit down experience again.”

“I am finally getting around to writing this review but honestly just go to the restaurant. The service is impeccable and the sommelier that we had absolutely made my fiancés birthday and our experience a 5 star Michelin experience. The food was insanely creative and so good we wanted to lick our plates. We will be scheduling our next visit because out of the several Michelin restaurants we have been to in the city, this one stands well above the crowd. I didn’t get a picture of the bbq course because the smell sent me into a frenzy and I ate all of it before I could take a picture. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.”

La Voute Bistro

“Amazing gem in the heart if Homewood, IL. We had the La Voûte burger, salad and asparagus. The burger was more like a steak and cooked to perfection. It was 830, almost closing time and they treated us like we had all the time in the world. It was an awesome experience for the end of a long day.”

Bistrot Zinc

“Love this place and hope they stay around for quite some time. They have great French options and a fun seasonal menu. Brunch is always a great option for a less expensive but good experience. Their dinner is usually filled with older couples and the waitstaff is always friendly. I wish they had a few more of the standard French menu options because I would love to see how they handle them.”

Francois Frankie

222 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60606, United States

“Francois Frankie, an upscale French-themed restaurant located in Chicago, proved to be a delightful pre-show dinner spot during our recent visit. Despite the restaurant operating at full capacity, the staff managed to accommodate us near their uniquely charming revolving bar after a brief wait, with sincere apologies from what seemed to be a manager for our patience. The ambiance at Francois Frankie is a beautiful blend of elegance and humor. The dramatic decor and lighting set the stage for the culinary experience to come, evoking the sophistication associated with French cuisine without being overly pretentious. It's a balance that Francois Frankie executes with grace and a dash of whimsy. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, recommending a cocktail and promptly taking our orders. We informed her that we were dining prior to a show, and thus had a somewhat tight schedule. Despite our concerns about the timing due to the crowded restaurant, our orders arrived surprisingly quickly and were nothing short of delicious. The French onion soup came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Hearty and flavorful, it was a standout dish that hit all the right notes. I also tried the Croque-inspired eggroll appetizer, an interesting concept that fell a bit short compared to the soup but was still quite enjoyable. My companion's simple salad, enhanced with added salmon, demonstrated that even the more straightforward dishes at Francois Frankie are prepared with care and skill. The salmon was impeccably cooked and well-seared, a testament to the kitchen's attention to detail. The pricing at Francois Frankie aligns well with the quality of the offerings and is comparable to other dining establishments in the area. For a night out in Chicago, especially if you're planning a visit to a nearby theater, Francois Frankie offers an excellent dining experience. Its combination of chic ambiance, attentive service, and flavorful cuisine make it a worthy stop on any downtown itinerary.”
