“Eness Hostels was one of the many good decisions I made in 2023 :p Located barely 5 minutes (by 2-wheeler) and 20 minutes (by foot) from White Town on M.G. Road, the hostel has slightly smaller but neatly kept and clean dorms with an open terrace. The hosts are EXTREMELY helpful and patient while suggesting local spots and helping you figure buses to visit places a little outside of the main city. Throw 20 questions at them and they'll answer them all with the same smile and enthusiasm :') Lot's of old, local eateries are at walking distance and the hostel is right in the middle of the market area.”

“The house is stunning and decorated with great taste. Don’t forget to check the store: it has amazing gems. The food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) was tasteful. The staff is so welcoming and helpful as always in India. However, do not book the rooms that are in the front : there is a cafe around the corner that blasts music till late at night, ruining the peaceful atmosphere of this great part of the city. The hotel’s owner can’t do anything as the cafe’s owner has “connections”… We tried to talk to the cafe’s manager whom as a real jerk didn’t care about our issue.”

“Staff behaviour is very rude. We arrived 4 at the morning and we have booking. As the check in time is 12 so they don't have rooms available at that time. We came after 11 then also they were not Agreed to give the room. Treating your guests like this? We were waited for 8 hours?!!! You can't even give a room or a proper behaviour. Disgusting and pathetic! Wasted! When they provide rooms , bedsheets were dirty and stained , room was not clean, Worst experience. Staff is not all worth talking. They also discriminate based on your place. They will taunt on your language. He was demeaning Hindi, being our national language no one has right to do this. I really felt bad seeing this kind of behaviour. Not at all worth it!! Not recommended at all.”

“Not co-operative at all. We booked a deluxe room for 6 people. They didn't provide much of the things beforehand. You need to buy water can there..That was new for me. We wanted 1 hour early check in but owner was not co-operative in that regard...Due to rain our clothes got wet.but there were no hanger or anything like that.Place is quite for sure. Room was clean. Beds were okayish”

“Very bad experience. Their rooms look pretty only on the website. We had booked a room a month in advance, by looking at the website, a handful of positive reviews, and on my friend's recommendation. However, our experience was totally opposite of what we had in mind. We have stayed in all sorts of stays in different parts of India but this was a total no-go, especially for the price they charge. Despite booking a month prior, we got to hear from the receptionist "We do not have rooms available right now. We will accommodate you in a basic room tonight and tomorrow we will shift you to another room." The room they showed as "basic" did not even have the most basic thing: cleanliness. It seemed like they opened that room after ages; it had leakages, cobwebs, and a bad bad sting. They were not ready to commit to an upgrade the next day, not agreeing to refund when we decided to cancel our booking, or give us some assurance of providing a better room. The room's window opened into their restaurant's kitchen! It had no balcony. Linens seemed to be not changed for years. There was absolutely no network in the room, no light, no ventilation. We decided to chuck it and save our anniversary day and night by booking with The Promenade. They boast their about prime location, but Pondicherry is quite small in itself and there are 1000 times better stays around. Not at all recommended.”

“This has to be one of the finest ones. The room was spacious, had a very clean bathroom, working AC and a small balcony as well. The staff was very courteous and friendly. We asked for some out of the scope arrangements and they were made with no questions asked. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner and the assurance of a stress free stay was highly obliged. Another good piece about this hotel is the location. The rock beach is just 10 mins away. And the city area is just 5 mins. Center of the city. Would highly recommend.”

“In the name of a Heritage Hotel, The French Villa is looting people of their money and a good experience in this location. I booked two rooms for 21st October for me and my friends. Both the rooms had several problems. 1. Rooms were not at all clean. The paintings on the wall and the room corners had MOULD all over it. Ac was not working. 2. Bed was broken and there were ants and insects all over it. 3. We spent just one night there, we requested for customer service or even asked to talk to their manager but no one responded to our calls. 4. Next day, while checking out, the hotel manager had the audacity to say that he has been managing 2 more hotels in Pondicherry. This hotel is more of a Heritage Hotel. 5. We spent 8k+ for two rooms and it’s not even we went for a cheaper stay. THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR HEALTH. In my personal opinion, if you don’t have the resources or time to maintain your hotels’ basic amenities, you shouldn’t be in this business. Heritage hotels are great if only you don’t call your lack of knowledge about maintaining one.”
