“The hotel is my favourite in the Lake District, It’s in the middle of Ambelside with access to great walks, rides, shops, cinema and lots of other local attractions. It’s also central & allows great access to the rest of the Lake District. The staff are all very friendly and attentive. The hotel feels very luxurious & makes you feel very relaxed, it is spotlessly clean & the new loft room, that we were lucky to stay in was the best, amazing, with your own private steam room, sauna & a massive jet bath for 2, with a TV in the bathroom as well as the bedroom. All spaces are beautifully decorated. There is also a small gym, lovely pool & spa area - steam room, sauna, indoor jacuzzi & outdoor jacuzzi with massage jets. The bar & restaurant is lovely and also serves an amazing breakfast. All good and we look forward to staying again. Many Thanks”

“Just spent a night here with my mum. We loved the experience. The staff were efficient and attentive - I phoned for an iron and had it delivered to our room within seconds. The room was lovely and toasty warm (even with below 0 temperatures outside). The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Would definitely return again :)”

“Took my mum here for afternoon tea for her birthday. Brilliant service, staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were seated in a window with excellent views over the lake, the hotel is situated on a great spot for views of the area. The food was excellent, great scones. Attention to detail when we requested vegetarian. The lounge we were seated in was also dog friendly so we were able to bring our dog too, I've found this to be rare when going for afternoon tea elsewhere. Overall a fantastic experience!!”

“The hotel is lovely stayed for 3 weeks on a business trip. The location is good for walks with good views. The rooms are nice and are very clean. the food and drinks are good and prices are not bad which is always great! the hospitality and staff at the Appleby are absolutely fantastic! We were served most nights by David, who is an absolute gentleman his hospital is something a lot of hotels can do with these days. “Went in for lunch on a Friday, it was very busy so service could have been a little quicker but friendly and pleasant. Excellent menu with lots of different choices whether for a main meal or just a snack. Food was very good. Disappointed that three of the beer choices were unavailable and ended up with cider. The hotel is thoughtfully laid out, we had a great room with a view over the lake, and having to stay inside was much improved by the choice of unique board games in the bar area and the spa facilités. We also chose to eat in the Rampsbeck and absolutely loved all the dishes. Would highly recommend the scallops and veal. Servers very attentive and friendly too. “We had a beautiful night here over Christmas. The whole atmosphere is gorgeous - the perfect country pub. The room was stunning, with great cosy decor and an inviting stand alone bath, plus the body wash in the room smelled delicious. There were treats and a ball left out for our dog too, he was very pleased. The food was top notch, we had the steak pie and the fish and chips followed by a cheese board and the chocolate and raspberry tart. All were perfect. The staff were just lovely and we had a great chat with a waitress who was making us laugh with her love for mushy peas. The location is stunning too, surrounded by country side and great walks. Couldn’t recommend more.”

“Stunning location! Ample parking. You can pitch your tent, take a room or a pod. And use the facilities here. Stream just outside, and on a clear day, you can star gaze, which was something else! Rooms are clean, bed was comfortable. Toilets and showers clean and hygienic. Staff were super. Friendly and knowledgeable. And very accommodating. Compared to hotel and other lodging.. they focused 1st on the well-being of whoever walks in. Food was great, they had a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options.”

“Have had a fantastic experiences at the Shakespeare Inn. We booked for 15 people, which included various dietary requirements and allergies, and they were so accommodating. “(CHECK IN) Stayed here for 2 weeks solo as my parents stayed else where, arrived around 9am, girls on reception were very helpful and I was shown to my room I didn't expect it to be ready. (ROOM) Cleaners came in everyday to make the bed, fresh towels and clean around nothing was ever taken. I never put my sign out for room be cleaned or not to be cleaned and they still went in when I was out. Air-conditioning and safe included in the price. Bottles of water left everyday in the fridge. (LOCATION) Lovely grounds and place to stay just a shame you can hear the mopeds and cars going past your room late at night. Around 10/15 min walk to main bars,shops and beach. 7 Eleven Supermarket couple minutes walk. Supparat lovely food and very good prices. I used Marina Laundry over the road 300baht for 7kg wash and dry smells lovely. (COMPLAINTS NOT HOTEL FAULT) 1 night I had trouble with next door from 11.30pm till around 4.30am been very loud complained to security twice the next morning I went to reception and the girls solved the problem straight away and moved me rooms can't remember there names but I couldn't thank them enough. (23/11/23 (BREAKFAST) I went the first morning and didn't return after that only 2 options. First choice was 2 local sausage, eggs, local ham and toast. Second choice I think it was omelette. Served with a glass or orange juice and coffee. Breakfast does need working on but seems to be a lot of long term people living here so I can imagine it not be worth putting a spread on.”
