“For my second Twist appointment I was finally ready to go with shorter hair. Julianna proceeded to give me a great cut that met all my requirements. But the proof of a good haircut is in the at-home styling, which is why I wait to review my cuts. And all I can say is, Wow! This is a magic haircut! In the past month I have been able to style this cut in a variety of ways, from loose curls to loose waves to partial and almost full updos to a sleek flip, all with NO heat styling, using only roller clips, or a comb, or the occasional brushing, or even just my fingers. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the best haircut I have ever had. My issues, as before, are still with the products: 40 minutes after having Julianna show me how to finger style the new cut, my hands and then my scalp had a bad contact dermatitis reaction. At that point I belatedly read the ingredients list on the new (to me) styling products that Julianna had used and found that one has an ingredient I’m allergic to while the other has at least one ingredient I may be allergic to. (Hyper-reactive skin is no fun for me or for a stylist!) Fortunately, I was able to get back to Alameda within 30 days, and Tyler processed my unopened product return with a smile and no questions asked. After 2 cuts I’m a believer in Twist Salon’s philosophy and the expertise of the staff, and only hope that I can continue to get my hair cut there without the use of products that irritate my skin. Here’s hoping that we can work that out. I’m looking forward to my next wonderful Twist experience! Anne”

“Such a magical healing and peaceful place. Service is 5 stars. I received a massage from Felicity who I must say has healing powers! I could tell she truly cares about making sure the client will be relaxed and whatever areas are a concern will be addressed. I fell asleep multiple times during my massage with her and I typically never fall asleep during massages. I had the hot oil scalp treatment. Another highly recommend add on service. You won't regret it. Following this I had a tub/sauna session. The rooms are private, clean, and you are also given tea. I suggest bringing some form of shower slides/sandals to easily move through the spa/take a shower before going into the tub. I also suggest bringing quarters if you'd like to park in the front, most of downtown Santa Cruz has meter parking. You'd have to park/walk pretty far if you forget change. However if you did forget change the receptionist was able to exchange a couple dollars I had which I truly appreciated because inflation has taken over the meters and I did not have enough.”

Dan, who did my piercings, was the ultimate professional. He explained everything clearly during every step of the process. My comfort and satisfaction were obviously the priority. The piercing room was comfortable and I appreciate the extensive steps taken to provide a sterile and safe experience. Aftercare was clearly explained, all of my questions cheerfully answered, and the follow up email put everything in writing for my convenience. Wow! “Went in with 27 inch hair and left with 18-19inch hair when all I asked was for a small trim. Not to mention they’re overpriced & the service is garbage. $100 down the drain and now I have to invest in some extensions. I always hear bad reviews of this place & now that I’ve experienced their service, I can agree! So sad that not even the manager was able to help me. Do not go here, save yourself the $$$. I put before and after pics. And for stylist reference - her name was Rosy. Not to mention, I DID contact the salon and the manager was not helpful at all, all she said was “I spoke to the stylist and that’s what you asked for” NO I did not ask for that much cut but obviously you’re gonna take your stylist side! That says a lot about you and your brand. Customers always come first, no wonder the salon was empty! That should have been the first red flag.”

My previous complaint was that they didn't take walk ins and didn't tell me that until I had waited for a while (they told me I could wait, and then when I asked about how long the wait was they told me that they were booked till the end of the day... which seems like something they could have been forthcoming about up front.) This time they took me as a walk in at the 2nd Street shop. (I called in advanced to make sure they were taking walk ins.) My hair will stand straight up if cut too short but they did a good job on the first cut.”

“Booked an appointment with Isaac for 9 am. When I arrived he wasn't there yet but shop had just opened so figured he'd be in shortly. Only 1 barber was in the shop already with a customer. Sign said cash only so used their ATM to withdraw cash for the cut and a tip. $3 fee, mind you. Only for the barber not to show. I waited and at 930 they tried to find another barber for me since Isaac wasnt responding. At 940 AM they found someone but it was foing to take them at least 30 minutes to arrive. Front receptionist kept apologizing. Wasted my time and was late to work. So much for reserving my appointment online... only to get stood up. What's crazy though is so many of the barbers had morning appointments yet only 1 barber was in. Went elsewhere and got my hair cut, would not come back here. Truly disappointed. Spent $3 to withdraw money for the cut and tip that I didn't even get to receive.”
