Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park

White Spar Hwy #89, Yarnell, AZ 85362, United States

“My heart. Beautiful memorial for these young individuals who left too soon. Mostly a 3.7 mile hike one way but stopping in parking lot was very much a reminder of all these service men gave. Worth the drive. Beautiful weather and area. RIP”

Boynton Canyon Trail

( 10 reviews )

Boynton Cyn Trl, Sedona, AZ 86336, United States

“Great trail, most can do it, would say it's moderate. Has a nice pace, and just before the key cave and lookout ledge it's a little challenge, just step over step, slow to get up the narrow side , and your good. Yes I would do this trail again. Great place to take out of towners.b”

“Great service! All the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about cycling and the best routes for the area. I visited Phoenix from out of state. I rented a Trek Checkpoint SL5 from them, beautiful bike. If I ever visit Phoenix again I’ll definitely return to REI for a rental! They had such a wide variety of bikes and other outdoor equipment.”

Kofa National Wildlife Refuge
4.7
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 08:00 AM

Palm Canyon Rd, Yuma, AZ 85365, United States

“I spent two weeks dry camping / boondocking on Kings Rd. Lots of great spot to camp, easy access, great views, quiet, clear skies. I really enjoyed this entire area. It was clean and everyone was respectful of each other. I had great 5G ATT coverage. Though if you go farther back it may be more spotty. No services here. Palm canyon is another popular road to camp on. Seems busier on the weekend with buggies, jeeps and motorcycles. The roads will be dusty, park up wind, if near the road.”

2425 E Deer Valley Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85050, United States

“We came from Canada and attended the Desert Cup tournament here. This complex was amazing and fields were immaculate with great views. The boys had great time playing here. Wish we had something like this.”

Homolovi State Park
4.5
( 16 reviews )
Closed until 08:00 AM

AZ-87, Winslow, AZ 86047, United States

“Overall, this a very clean, easy to navigate, and enjoyable park. Pull through sites big enough to easily accommodate our 65ft rig. Do be warned that large sites tend to have the hookups on the wrong side and pushed back toward the entry of the pad, so bring long hoses to hook up with. All sites are asphalt pads with a fire ring and picnic table. There is well maintained foliage in different areas and campsites. Sites are close, but not on top of each other. We found the restrooms to be very clean. Showers are older and not quite as nice, but not the worst we have seen. Sites are electric only or water and electric, there is sewar at any site, but there is a very clean, easy to use dump station. We arrived on a Sunday and stayed 3 days. We found the park to be VERY quiet and allowed for private exploration whether on foot or bicycle. The visitor center and Homolovi I Archaeological sites are within 1.5mi of the campground so a nice walk, but also easily drivable. Homolovi II is several miles from the campground and may be better suited for a drive for most people. This is also a short drive to downtown Winslow, AZ, which is a wonderful afternoon outing. At about $30/night this is an excellent value, if you want to see wildlife, hike and/or bike, and just relax. Do know that it does not have a playground or other children dedicated amenities.”

Hayden Butte

( 8 reviews )
Open until 10:00 PM

E Rio Salado Pkwy & S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281, United States

“A really nice short hike with a great view! It is fairly steep but definitely short enough for all types of hikers to be able to enjoy! I went last week and I thought it was super cute how there were signs with the three wise men! I enjoyed seeing the different types of holiday symbolism! I followed Google Maps and it brought me to the side of the mountain - not a parking lot. But there are a few parking lots and garages nearby so there are parking options. It was roughly 65-70 degrees last week which was perfect!”

“All of the Camp Hosts have been amazing. It’s a nice quiet park. They hosts do a great job cleaning up camp sites, bathrooms, and collecting the trash. Love seeing them at the gates and their wonderful smiles. They make the experience of the regional parks unique. Wish there was an on site laundry, it’d make life so much easier for regular campers. Kudos for doing it right!”

Oracle State Park
4.7
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 09:00 AM

3820 E Wildlife Dr, Oracle, AZ 85623, United States

“good easy trail for kids under 8 and elders, otherwise it’s boring in this winter season. The Nature trail that's close to the gift shop has just sands and withered plants. The wild life trail can’t see any wild life, seldom any other hikers on the road. There are so many side ways that’s misleading. We miss the Wild life trail and proceed to firebreak road at first until we saw 4 others coming down from a hill. There’s only 1 ranger works at the gift shop. No other rangers guide you on the way. We arrive about noon and the gift shop was closed till 2pm. There are some gold finch birds perching at the bird feeder in front of the Ranch house. The 100 year old house is well maintained with some nice household display. Outside the house is a bit windy. The park close at 5pm so we barely have time to finish 3 trails. The Geology trail has nothing much to see. The granite loop maybe more fun with the boulder views. If you bring small kids, don’t forget to ask the ranger for the activity pamphlet and later return for the cool yellow badge. People seem to call in to book the star party at night while we were at the gift shop. You pay parking at the gift shop not the front door.”

Desert Vista Trailhead
4.8
( 16 reviews )
Open until 07:00 PM

1901 W Desert Vista Trail, Phoenix, AZ 85085, United States

“A Nice area for hiking and to take up the desert vibes, not too far from Phoenix. Perhaps less interesting end summer as the heat has dried out most of the vegetation. You will have view of some suburbs, so if you want to hike more in 'nature', I would recommend to drive a little further and hike in the preserves.”

Sweetwater Preserve Trailhead
4.7
( 10 reviews )
Closed until 07:00 AM

4001 N Tortolita Rd, Tucson, AZ 85745, United States

“Well-marked trails and great views. Came here for a sunset hike. Trail was not too crowded. Chose to do the wildflower ridge trail and a part of the desperado loop before it got too dark.”

Lockett Meadow Campground
4.7
( 8 reviews )

Lockett, Meadow Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86001, United States

“Lockett Meadows during October is beautiful! All of the aspens are golden & it’s such a beautiful hike. It’s harder when the road up the mountain is closed (3.5 miles straight up a mountain took us roughly 2hrs before getting to the trailhead). But overall, so serene. We went during the eclipse & it’s a memory I’ll treasure forever.”
