“We hiked the Solstice Canyon loop. This 3 mile trail has a lot of interests. There are ruins, a tiny waterfall, pretty wild flowers for this season, and the nice views. It was very easy to walk and I really like there. I will introduce this trail to my other friends who like to hike.”

“This is a great little stop on Rte 27. There is a little trail to hike up and have a better view of the entire city. On a good day you can see all the way to the city. There is parking for about 10 cars. Also it's very hot up there when the the sun is beating down. I couldn't believe how hot it is.”

“Beautiful place to see a wide view of the Pacific Ocean. Reserved parking signs were up. I'm not sure for what reason, but we just parked and watched the sunset for about 20 minutes. Definitely recommend checking this view out if you are in the area. I didn't see any kids' areas or playgrounds or restrooms.”

“We were there for the Holiday Road event. Overall it was pretty darn cool. They had some displays that you don't see at other holiday light events. I think that the pictures speak for themselves. Love that there were food trucks and bars set up on the premise as well. Always a plus in our books.”

Signal Hill Park is perfect for family outings. The picnic areas, playgrounds, and open spaces offer endless opportunities for fun and relaxation. Crystal Lake Camp Grounds

State Rte 39, Azusa, CA 91702, United States

“It's a long and winding road up the mountain to get here, but it's all worth the drive! It's breathtaking beautiful up here. The air up here is wonderful. The campground was clean and instructions easy. There are restrooms around thecampsited that's easy to get to, also fairly clean. There are fire pits and the ground is not hard to stake your tent down into. Beautiful trees, lots of oaks. There is a small Cafe/shop across the street if you need anything. The guy running the store is super friendly and helpful. There are absolutely no lights around the campsite after dark so be sure to bring your own. Saw some squirrels, heard some woodpeckers and other various birds, but didn't see any other animals, although I have heard others seeing bigger animals on the campground. It is bear country, but luckily didn't run into any. It is amazing to look at the stars at night up here! The wind was very high later in the night. It's a great spot for camping!”

Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park

9853 Andora Ave, Chatsworth, CA 91311, United States

“Hike can be challenging due to rain. Spring 2023. In order to stay on the path you have to cross the Creek couple of times. This April there is still lots of water. You definitely need hiking shoes. There are not too many wild flowers here. But: it’s still a great hike.”

Bird Sanctuary Griffith Park

Closed until 05:00 AM

2900 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027, United States

“A great place to leave everything behind and hike. Highly recommend if you’re planning for hiking, bird watching or wildlife photography. If you want to park free, you might want to come early in weekdays, there only few plots. If not, u still can park free at road side or with 10$ at their parking area. I enjoyed when not many people hiking here so I can silently watch many species in the wild. I hate when people hike and make so much noise and loud music. It’s not only affects my time with natute, it also affects wild animals. That’s why I recommend you to come here at weekdays, not weekends and not too late. Hope it helps. Oh, one last thing, I luckily saw a rattlesnake which is Venomous Southern Pacific Rattlesnake (𝐶𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑖 𝑜𝑟 𝐶𝑟𝑜𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑠 𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑔𝑎𝑛𝑢𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑟𝑖), quite possibly the most common snake in the LA region. But don’t worry, if you saw one when hike, freeze and hold still and slowly back up. Giving space is crucial as snakes are likely just passing through. To avoid them, stay on the path and avoid thick vegetation, do not have earbuds in or listen to music. They may rattle as a warning. You should be ready to look out for the rattling sound. This rattlesnake I took in the appeared very close to me, just about a meter away. While I was sitting, waiting to photograph a flock of birds, I turned around and suddenly saw it. I just stayed quiet and stood still, watching it. Even though it was very close, it didn't show any aggression. So, don’t worry. They have their own business to mind about.”

Chilao Campground
4.6
( 8 reviews )

unnamed road, Palmdale, CA 93550, United States

“It’s a good enough campground. I recommend it to people to keep my favorite spots less busy. My likes are that there’s a few trails close by and it’s first come first served. No RV hookups means it’s mostly tent/car campers which is great - keep those porta potties on wheels away. I’ve stayed here over the years many times and the noise, lack of space between sites and trash are general factors on why i tend to stick to dispersed camping versus campgrounds but it’s a nice hour drive if I’m desperate to get away for a day or weekend. The rangers do make rounds here so be sure to pay for your site or they will ask you for a fee.”
