“My husband and I are on a mission to tour all the light houses in Florida. Today we took the time to drive down and visit the Hillsboro lighthouse (which is only open once a month) and we did not enjoy our experience. We went for the 2:00 tour and expected a tour. It started raining a little (lasted maybe 15 minutes) and instead of getting 2 hours off exploring we were told only 15 minutes. It was a little rain not a downpour. Then when we were there the volunteer staff was not friendly. All they were interested in was rushing us out, putting their tents down in, and putting the merchandise away. My husband tried to ask questions, and they ignored him. It says there is a museum but no one informed us or guided us. It’s like they were all trying to just get home or watch football. It’s not worth 35.00 a person. If they knew that they were going to only give us 15 minutes they could have told us that when we purchased the tickets and we could have decided if we wanted to come by another time we can make that decision. Overall very disappointing. Don’t waste your money.”

“Fantastic tour and guides! I took the tour mostly to visit the lighthouse but it turned out to be so much more. We stopped at multiple launch sites, a couple of small museums and even a quick stop at a beautiful uncrowded beach. Kevin was our driver and Karen was our guide. She grew up in the area and it was great hearing stories of all of the excitement she lived through. There was so much to see and learn. Well worth your time!”

“First, I must say I knocked 2 stars because of #1 NOT being opened during the hours they advertise (info. on the Internet says the grounds are only opened on Saturdays 11am to 2pm. This is a lie!) and #2 lack of information (no one at the Parks and Recreation Dept. even answers the phone). We drove all the way from St. Petersburg, FL to see this lighthouse and (in part...I guess because we saw it!) it was a waste of money & time. Nobody was there. All you can do is take pictures from the outside. It's sad that there are a lot of people still interested in visiting these iconic structures but there's no support for this type of tourism. There should be an album where you can get stamped for every lighthouse visited.”
