Unfortunately we are not able to start the trip and Camping La Tour des Prises will not provide any refunds even though there are still 8 months until the date. Of course it would be ok to retain a cancellation fee. That's how you can scare away customers... We know it differently. It's a shame that it's handled so poorly.”

The kitchen was well stocked, but there was no salt and pepper and there wasn't a corkscrew to be found. Luckily we brought our own. “We loved this campsite. Originally booked for 2 nights but extended to a week in October. Big pitches with a personal picnic table and awning, water and electricity on the pitch. Really modern and clean toilet / wash up area . Lovely half open air swimming pool with loungers . Friendly, helpful staff. But all this with an amazing beach within a walking distance from a back gate . Excellent independent restaurant on site with great seafood , and good prices , but book first , very popular with locals. A very happy stay I think we will return . Thank you”

“For the price in this area it's really ok. When we first booked it I found it expensive but then checked the rest and changed my mind. The city in general is very expensive (for south European standards). The staff is very polite and willing to help with anything you need. The rooms are cozy and clean(I just disagree with the red flower light because it makes the whole room red at night). Close to the center. There is the option of parking for 12€/night and the option for breakfast for 15€/person. We didn't try the breakfast so I can't really tell you about it.”

“A nice campsite with good facilities however we had issue with the pitches and the noise. We originally wanted a pitch closer to the beach however the ground was rock so we couldn't peg the tent and had to stay closer to the activities. The pitches were on the smaller side with not much privacy, however the main issue was the very loud entertainment until 11.30pm. With very young children in a tent this was not great for us. If you manage to secure a pitch on the other side of the site this shouldn't be an issue. The best thing is the lovely quiet beach just walking distance from the site.”

“We spent a week in our caravan here and do not feel it deserves 5 stars. On arrival we were met by a somewhat non plussed staff member who said we could choose our 'pitches' she only showed us one however which was right next to the bar. This later turned out to be incredibly noisy until around 1am with lots of rowdy shouting. We asked to move pitches and had to return twice to see 'the boss' to see if this was possible- we then moved to a quieter location but nobody bothered to check if our new pitch was ok. The facilities are dilapidated-the mini golf is falling apart, the toilets and shower blocks are dirty and broken and the pool area is incredibly small and overcrowded. It is nowhere near a beach and the town centre (Chateau D'Oleron) is a car journey away. The one redeeming feature of our holiday was that our children enjoyed the water slide, however this was the most expensive site we stayed at during our 4 weeks away and really was the worst one! Look elsewhere!”

“My family and I recently stayed at Camping Capfun Bonne Etoile on Île de Ré, and I must say that our experience left much to be desired. While the staff was friendly, there were numerous issues that greatly impacted our holiday. From the moment we arrived, we encountered cleanliness problems that were impossible to ignore. Our rented houses were far from the standard we expected. Moldy bread next to the bed, along with moldy showers, were just the beginning. Despite these concerning signs, we initially didn't complain, hoping things would improve. However, matters escalated when we discovered a persistent infestation of cockroaches in both our house and on the terrace. These pests were far from a minor inconvenience; they actually crawled onto us during evenings spent outside. To address this unsettling problem, we approached the staff and provided evidence of the infestation with photos and research confirming they were indeed cockroaches, not sandflies as we were initially told. The staff acknowledged the presence of cockroaches and the subpar cleanliness, which made it even more surprising that they refused to consider a refund for the exorbitant cleaning fee we had paid. Their explanation that it was against their policy to entertain complaints made late in the week felt inadequate, particularly in the face of such severe issues. Their assertion that "cockroaches are like spiders, it is normal, they are everywhere" was both dismissive and disappointing, as it belied the standards one would expect from a holiday rental. Furthermore, the lack of hygiene extended beyond our accommodations. The swimming pool was so overcrowded that finding even a small space to swim was a challenge, and the state of the pool toilets was far from acceptable. Adding to our grievances, the food provided at the campground led to illness, resulting in a night of discomfort after consuming a hamburger. In addition to the aforementioned issues, we also noticed an odd smell coming from the air conditioning. While not a major problem, it did contribute to an overall sense of discomfort and was another indication of the maintenance shortcomings. Our frustration was further compounded when we had to clean everything meticulously and inspect our belongings while packing to leave, to avoid the risk of taking cockroaches home. We even discovered a cockroach and its egg sack in one of our bags – we consider ourselves lucky that we thoroughly checked all our items. Unfortunately, even now that we have returned home for the past 2 days, the presence of cockroaches persists. I was astounded to find another cockroach on top of my car, complete with an egg sack. This creature managed to survive the journey, underscoring the lingering risk of these pests infiltrating our home. It's regrettable that our family holiday was marred by these experiences. We chose Bonne Etoile with the hope of a relaxing and enjoyable time, but instead, we were met with cleanliness issues, pest infestations, a lack of basic hygiene standards, and minor inconveniences like the strange smell from the air conditioning. While the staff's friendliness was appreciated, it unfortunately couldn't compensate for the multitude of problems we encountered. In light of our experience, I feel it's essential to share this feedback with fellow travelers. I hope that management takes this as an opportunity to address these issues and improve the overall quality of stays for future guests.”
