“Pros: The staff was great and quite helpful. The cleanliness and overall quality of maintenance was also very good. Cons: The location wasn't great. It was on a mud road far from the main road below, high in elevation, and difficult to reach on foot. Poor parking facilities as well. Also, there were very few good places for something as simple as tea or snacks in the vicinity. The property itself doesn't have any amenities or food options. A small kitchen or pantry for guests to make their own food/tea/coffee would be great given the isolated nature of the property.”

“I had a great experience at this cottage. The rooms were spacious and absolutely clean. The beds were comfy and I had a lovely nights rest. Hot water is available which is a MUST when in Ooty although it is controlled by the staff so you have to give them a call and wait for 30 minutes. Which is alright because the service is pretty prompt. They have a coffee machine and snacks available. Everything is provided, including towels, soap bars and shower gels. I had absolutely no complaints with the room or my stay, besides the commute to the hotel. The road to the hotel is an uphill climb and they have plenty of potholes and craters. However, once that is fixed, it would be a prime destination for very affordable costs”

“We had a great stay at Ghar Homestay. One of those offbeat places where the property is located in the midst of nature surrounded by tea estates & beautiful valleys. We had a great time there. The owner, the staffs everyone was welcoming. The trek with Alok( owner) to a hiking point was the icing on the cake. My recommendation is go for this property & the experience. Don’t even think twice, the photos uploaded in google are exactly the same how it looks in original as well:”

“When we requested an extra bed over the phone, they initially responded like, 'We usually don't provide one.' However, later they agreed. Nevertheless, on their website, it was available for an additional cost. We paid Rs. 1250 per day for an extra bed in addition to the Rs. 5000 per day room charge. Unfortunately, we ended up with an uncomfortable rope bed that caused backaches. We had informed them of our 11 am check-in, but upon arrival, they claimed it was early, even though most rooms were unoccupied. They charged an additional Rs. 500 per day for a basic heater. The floorboard was squeaky and had holes in it. The toilet flush was not working, and they fixed it in the evening after we requested it; they could have checked it before our check-in or provided a better room from the start. During checkout, they initially added a breakfast charge for the extra person, but after we pointed out it was included in the extra bed fee, they removed it. We could have stayed at a better place with better service at the cost of Rs. 6750 per day. The only plus is their vintage-style buildings and the environment surrounding them, and the manager recommended a few places.”

“Negatives : First of all this place is far from main road you will not get autos. 2nd. Food is worst and they will charge like 7 start hotels but taste was bad no salt at all. 3rd . They will not communicate with you properly as they dont know english or hindi much only Malayalam. 4th. They will not provide GST bill only estimate bill which can't reimburse 5th. Rooms they will clean once u boarded after that no. 6th. People in cafteria will scold people if you ask anything.i saw one guy scolded women in Malayalam as she is asking to speak in Hindi. Positive: Location is good dats it.”

“Ideally people with hotel like expectations should not book such places but yes if you are ready to ignore a few slips here and there, it is a fantastic place to stay. I booked the 2 rooms at ground floor and the space was perfect for us. It was 2 rooms attached to a drawing room cum kitchen area. Rooms were clean, spacious and everything was well maintained. TV in the drawing room needed recharge and owner should look into it. Actually if you come with kids then TV becomes mandatory to keep them engaged. Food served was homely and very tasty. I would recommend having dinner at property rather than venturing outside in the dark. Location is a little secluded but cannot do much with that. I can see that the owner cares about the property and wants to deliver a good experience. I was happy with my stay and would recommend families on a budget to consider this place.”

“Location was very good. It was very beautiful surrounded by tea garden. However, the service was very poor and slow. Buggy, house-keeping were not coming. And room was not as good as we expected. The window couldn't be closed due to bad construction quality. We asked for closing it and the weather was very cold outside. One maintainence guy came and tried to close it but he couldn't. He said that he will fix it in the next morning in this cold winter weather! And they said that changing room is not possible. It was the worst service I had among the hotels in the entire India.”
