“Glorified Hostel. Don’t believe the hype. This review will be harsh but I genuinely feel it's justified. The hotel rests solely on what some have labeled ‘trendy’, however the people praising this hotel are the Helen Keller’s of style and substance. Possibly one of the most basic and over rated hotels I've ever stayed in, especially outrageous for the price. The lounge and 'lobby' (which is just a bench where the receptionist has their back to you) was styled nicely, but that's where it ended. The rest of the hotel is "decorated" (and I use that term loosely) in the most drab and cheap 'storage facility chic'. The hotel has absolutely no redeeming amenities or features other than location, which is also a double edged sword. It’s so noisy being in the nightlife district they give you complimentary ear plugs, which speaks for itself. The beds are comfortable, and although the rooms are clean they are incredibly basic and small, so basic there's literally nothing else to tell you about them. There’s no where to hang clothes or store luggage, no fridge for refreshments, just a medium sized tv on the wall. The breakfast was literally, and I mean literally, just a small assortment of baked products, some fruit and yoghurt - not even a standard basic continental breakfast, but the coffee was good. The common areas sans the lobby are not air conditioned, so the impromptu sauna you're subjected to whilst waiting for the single lift that moves at a glacial pace, isn't especially fun either. There are much better hotels within walking distance, especially for the price. Sorry, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I like.”

“Was a little hit and miss with the food. Mine was nice but someone else on our table had a chunk of plastic in it. The female server walked past our table 5 times before cleaning our finished plates and always avoided eye contact. Drink service at the bar was fast but it seemed like a hassle every time we ordered a drink and didn’t get friendly or welcoming service. Live music was great and nice vibe.”

Mentioned to staff a second time and they blamed it on that it had been very busy the day before - not my problem excuse. They said they could clean our room extra the following day which never happened. Atmosphere in Hostel was very quite and dead if you want a quite/ un-social hostel.”

“This place is a hidden gem, the room was big, bed was clean and comfortable, the bathrooms are large. We came for a funeral and I forgot to iron our shirts before I left but the room had a iron and iron board it was a bonus, outside the room they have a ice machine and an ice cold water machine. They have a restaurant on site but we never made it to the restaurant however we did go and have a look it look very nice Inside. Railway station was about 5 minutes walk so we left the car and jumped on the train to the city for the day, very convenient. We will definitely be back Don't look past this place you won't regret it.”

“Going to start off the review by saying it’s really not that good. In a nutshell, it’s a place to cook and sleep. Starting with the bathrooms, hot water was uncommon and the tap for hot water in the showers was quite literally a dribble which meant if you wanted a proper shower it was cold. The toilets were okay, albeit a little dirty and the sinks were fine. My girlfriend had the issue of no hairdryer, and when we asked for one we were told they don’t hand them out anymore due to people stealing them. She has also said that only two of the ten lights in the female bathroom work. Onto the room. When we first arrived, only one bed was actually made, even though we checked in after the time suggested. We were in a 4 bed room which is good, but it was tiny. No space for 4 peoples luggage, however the lockers were suitable for two backpacks each, which is nice. There was no air-con, but it wasn’t too bad in the room as the evenings are fairly cool, and there was a fan on the wall which reached each bed when on the swing setting. The beds are uncomfortable as they are a thin foam mattress on a wire frame and they creek with every movement. There are also no curtains on the beds which is a nice touch in other hostels. You get woken up at 9:30 every morning as the announcement over the speakers reminds people to check out before 10am (which is early). The kitchen wasn’t the best either, with it being dirty all of the time. Most nights we had to wait for knifes and forks to be used and washed as there weren’t enough provided, so keep this in mind when packing, and it is probably worth buying your own pan as they are scarce too. The fridges looked clean but had an off putting smell. The common room was small, with most of it being dining tables and chairs, with two sofas and one pool table for the whole hostel which has about 60 rooms I’d say. Washing our clothes was also a nightmare as there are four washers and four dryers, and it costs four dollars for each. Bring your own washing powder/liquid too as the one you pay for is wash in the sink stuff. The balcony/rooftop room is quiet and the pathetic excuse for a gym is set of weights and a yoga mat. Overall, for the hostel commemorating 50 years of hostels in Australia, it’s disappointing. I won’t even mention the lift and how scary it is. There is no wonder it’s closing down, very unhappy with our stay.”

“Super close to the beach (a minutes walk away), has sufficient parking provided you arrive early, we didn't have trouble finding parking. Rooms (4 person dorm) were a bit humid, we had to leave the back door open for a bit of air. The beds were comfy and the room was clean as well. The staff were super friendly and gave us a good heads up before the stay. It has a bunch of restaurants and bars nearby and also a supermarket. If you're a bag packer this is a good option. Also the building is a heritage building and overall it was a good stay 👍.”

“Besides the location, everything is terrible about this hotel. Even though the prices are fair, there is no communication with any manager of the hotel. They would not pick up the phone so we stood for an empty, closed hotel. The room itself was the worst i have ever experienced with a bunk bed that was completely unstable, falling apart and caused a safety concern. The bathrooms were dirty and not supplied with any toilet paper. The included breakfast was absolutely nonexistent, so dont count on that.”
