Leman Locke, Aldgate

15 Leman St, London E1 8EN, United Kingdom

“Ditched the regular hotel for a serviced apartment. Love that the place has a fully functional (not to mention sparkling new) kitchenette and a washer/dryer. The floor space is generous. When you are staying for almost 2 weeks, some days you just want to relax in the room. Location of the apartment is great. A few minutes walk to Aldgate East Station; and plenty of local buses. A few groceries are walking distance to fill up the fridge.”

“Extremely comfortable and very hospitable! I enjoyed the Asian menu downstairs for lunch and appreciated that they were up late to let us in. Beds are amazing, and rooms were spacious. Felt like a great value as it’s close to a lot of good neighborhoods to visit.”

“The best I can say about the room is… it’s a room. And it was clean. Very small, very noisy (single glazed window to high st didn’t shut properly). The location is perfect for easy travel 50yards from the tube and the Bar area looks like a cool place to hang out.”

“WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. We arrived at the hotel to find the man at reception asleep on the sofa. Despite trying to wake him up, it took us calling the hotel phone to get him awake. He was rude and barely handed us a key before heading to the toilet and barely closing the door to our horror because everything could be heard. No information was provided regarding breakfast or anything else nor was any help offered with our bags. The only focus was given on us letting him know when we intended to check out so he knew to arrive at the correct time. We finally make it to our room. Though a clean room, the cables were untidy, the spotlight was coming out of its socket (health and safety concern) and the air con did not work. The shower does not work properly either and is barely adjustable. The outside garden area was also shoddy and not well kept. Heading out to dinner, we found the man outside smoking a cigarette and on the phone. As we were leaving after a discussion about us coming from Scotland, he proceeded to say he doesn’t like people from Edinburgh as they are “too posh”. The following morning, we found no milk in the room so we headed downstairs for breakfast only to be told there is no chef and he could offer us cereal but that the hotel was low on milk so we had to be careful in order to ensure there was milk for tomorrow. Note that when we did head down for breakfast, rather than greet us, he rudely gestured for us to come out and meet him there as he was having his first cigarette of the day. He proceeded to tell us we were the only guests and that it would be a loss were the chef to be in for only us. The worst part, he proceeded to sit with us (uninvited) and ranted about “the they/ them nonsense” and “how children in school should not be taught about sex education specifically about gay families”, how the “east india trading company helped india” and finally “India, China and Russia are laughing at Canadians and Brits because woke culture has ruined us”. There were many other xenophobic statements made that would likely hurt the sentiments of those reading this review. When we suggested that his opinions were his own and controversial and that we disagreed he raised his voice and claimed it was not controversial and an opinion, it was honesty that people need to hear. How this unprofessional, arrogant and rude man continues to have a job here astounds me. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.”

“So, firstly the location is excellent if you need St Pancras or King’s Cross. As a hotel it really is very basic. The beds don’t feel great - a bit lumpy. No lift so had to carry luggage although the receptionist offered to help with …”

Halpin House ( South Kensington )

Halpin House, 97 Queen's Gate, South Kensington, London SW7 5AB, United Kingdom

“The quality is reflected in the price 😅 I was in a two person room and it was pretty spacious. The room has a bed, wardrobe, and sink/mirror that are relatively clean. The beds are not the most comfortable but that’s fine. The communal showers are okay, kind of small, but make sure to bring shower shoes and a robe to make it easier for yourself to change in your room. 2 out of 3 of them always had a weird smell. The communal toilets are something to be left desired, not the cleanest and often ran out of TP. There’s two kitchens on the first floor. Not the best, but it gets the job done if you want to microwave something. A lot of construction going on during my stay here. Overall, do not expect a 5 star hotel. This will give you a place to sleep and shower when you stay in London for a really good price - that’s really it.”

Cityspace Borough

Closed until 03:00 AM

200 Borough High St, London SE1 1JX, United Kingdom

“Positive: The Hotel is in a central location and the hotel is next to the Borough’s underground station so its no big deal to reach any sight. I stayed for 5 days in June this year. The bed was comfortable and the staff was kind. Negative: The room is very small and I heard some loud noises in the night from an air conditioner. The toilet was clean enough to be used but it could be better.”

Selina Camden & Cowork

89 Chalk Farm Rd, Chalk Farm, London NW1 8AR, United Kingdom

“Excellent value for money in a small, cozy well located hotel. Stayed here for 3 nights during early Christmas. Only downside of hotel can be noise: our room was situated on street side across the pub and the walls are quite thin so you will here your fellow guests from time to time. Other then that: very engaging staff, clean rooms (we had a standard private) albeit somewhat small and lacking a safe. Shower was clean and one of the better we had. Food downstairs was very good! Trofie pasta was nice as were the breakfast options (small but nice). They serve some nice teas and proper espresso. This is a definite recommendation for smaller budget looking for a informal young crowd. There are shared beddings as well (hostel). Hotel is very convenient located next to Chalk Farm (50 meters).”
