“I stayed at VIALA. The room felt new and clean. The grounds were spacious and designed in such a way that you could feel the majestic nature. I think it's a great place to stay in your room for a long time, but there are a few things... Anyway, the hallway was long and it was a hassle to go to the bathroom or to eat. I think the spacious facility creates a sense of freedom, but this is the first time I've experienced such a hassle getting around. Also, as mentioned in some of the reviews, there were a lot of stains that made me feel like the water area was not cleaned properly on a regular basis. It's not so bad that you can't use it, but I think it's not good for a members-only resort hotel. Also, I could hear children's voices because the walls in the room were thin. There were also quite a few voices from people walking down the hallway. Next time, I think I'll stay somewhere other than VIALA.”

“Had a great stay here in Feb 2023 . Not near town ( 20 minute walk or taxi ) but good bus service to ski fields and there is a pub and a few restaraunts near by . Enjoyed the Onsen and yes breakfast was pretty much the same everyday but got you going . Romain the English speaking Frenchman made our trip a beauty ! He knew all bus / train info or would find out , knew all info on ski fields , rental places etc he would book taxis , restaraunts etc . He never seemed to get sick of our stupid questions ! I am sure the rest of the staff are equally as brilliant but because poor Romain spoke English he got us !!”

“This was by far the best hotel we have been to in Japan!! The service was amazing, they were all so kind and so welcoming. The rooms were cosy and always very clean. They offered a cleaning service everyday which was amazing. It was in a great location, very close to everything, and was overall 10/10. The services they provided were so good, a free icypole, yakult, and free drinks every day! and the natural hot springs were so nice!! Will definitely be coming back next time!”

“Came here via arranged car from Satoyama Villa for the day. Masashi-san, the service manager and sommelier warmly welcomed us to our room, 203 that had a fireplace and was very spacious and comfortably heated. We had sake tasting and Masashi-san carefully explained all the different types of sake from Miwatari and it was very interesting and we learn what is Junmai. We even got to try Junmai daiginjou which was made with three different rice and had incredible flavor. After that we had barbecue for lunch and all the ingredients were locally sourced and carefully prepared. Hot sake was also prepared to complement the food which was incredible in the cold. Despite the coldness, the staff who took care of us were all smiles so we felt grateful. After that, we tried onsens. Onsens here are a little special and not as hot as i’m used to. I actually like this better since i’m not being burnt haha. Spacious bath and Deep bath is highly recommended. After that we had dinner and was again warmly served. We had the omotenashi meal and all the dishes were incredible. I have never eaten bear meat before so it was interesting. Overall, very satisfied with the full day arrangement. I highly recommend people to come here even though it may be difficult. Staff english was very good so you will be well taken care of and winter period has many delicious fish incorporated into the meal.”

“Very handy hotel, situated close to the Matsumoto train station. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are spacious, and some come with washing machines and microwave ovens. The room washing machines are "compact", but sufficiently large to handle a day's washing, for two people. Detergent is provided. Machine does not dry the clothes - just spin-dry. If the room machine is insufficient for your needs, there's a coin-laundry on the second floor, with larger machines, and dryers as well. Room technology is a bit different, with automatic lights in the toilet, and a separate remote control for main room light. Good sized Japanese style bathroom 👍 Breakfast was excellent, with a different range of food choices on each of the days we stayed.”

“Suhaku is a wonderful hotel next to Lake Suwa! The room was big and had all the amenities I needed for my stay. The rooftop onsen was also fantastic! There was a separate side for men and women, and a possibility to reserve a private pool. The onsen had both an indoor bath and an outdoor bath with a beautiful view to the lake, and it was open until midnight so I could enjoy it even after a long day of sightseeing. Everything in the hotel was spotless clean, and the staff was also highly professional; Very polite and helpful. I had a great stay here and I wish to return someday.”

“Old but gold, away from Echotown so need to walk off the dinner for drinks. Free shuttle to and from the slopes; did accidentally put us onto the wrong shuttle after saying Goryu 5 times. Reason this doesn’t get a 5 is they only accept cash, which is deeply frustrating. We ended up using all our cash to pay for the room, last night spent over an hour in search for an ATM which accepts international to no avail. Unsure how we will pay the room service and bus tickets tomorrow but that’s another day 😂 so close to 5.”
