“Didn't live up to 4 stars Good points Friendly reception Lovely location. Nice pools. Bad points One the lights in our bedroom wasn't working (bulb had blown). No indication on the phone of how to contact reception. I pressed all the buttons. Had to walk down myself. Light was also not working in the sitting room outside our bedroom. Room 401 was lovely and large, huge bathroom but very little light due to tiny windows. Bed was not comfortable due to cheap mattress where you could feel the springs. No duvet cover on duvet (see photo). In the sitting area a load of stuff on top of an area (see photo). Breakfast basic disgusting coffee from a machine. No fresh squeezed orange juice. Spa, showers not working in pool area or changing rooms. Only one sauna working.”

“Very nice hotel with a infinity pool that has a great view. Breakfast is like all the other breakfast in Portugal. Cannot have supper here but it’s not far from Constantim or Vila Real. The only problem was that the free Wifi doesn’t work. Good thing that my important Zoom meeting was postponed for 2 days. I would have been in trouble”

“A very cool place. Rooms are fairly simple, but everything else is superb. Very friendly & personal service, from kind folks eager to show you the best of the area. THE best breakfast we had on our Portugal trip (which is saying a lot) - full of fresh goodies made, picked, and gathered right on the premises. A really neat honesty shop chockful of produce & other local goodies (try the cookies!) Best of all, the grounds are like a lush, tranquil oasis hidden away in the middle of town, complete with a river trail & an infinity pool. They also have charming, hand-drawn maps & booklets that make a perfect souvenir. Vila Real itself is pleasant enough - not really a tourist hotspot (yet?), but an excellent & affordable base for exploring the Douro region. There's also a beautiful, off the beaten path mountain park nearby just to the north. Highly recommended!”

“We spontaneously booked a two-night stay and frankly, it exceeded our expectations by 5000%. Not only were the guests super friendly, accommodated to our needs and provided us with tips on what to do; no. We really felt like family from the very start. Also, the breakfast was amazing with self-made cake that was still warm. The view from the infinity pool is truly stunning and one of my highlights was my nap in the living room with their cat napping on me. Can't wait to come back sometime soon. Definitely recommend this to any other human being out there!”

“The residence is close to a very traditional street with shops. We didn't sleep in the residence, we went there only to eat. The prices of the food were great. The place had a great atmosphere, however the food was only ok. You should try it if you find yourself close to it or in the city as they have many great traditional dishes and they are very accessible economically, however don't expect to eat something that it's so exceptional that you would want to eat only there.”

“NOT a 5 star hotel by a long shot but they do offer a gorgeous view. Here are some findings from our stay: Parking has no elevator (drop your bags at reception before parking if you have large luggage). No robes/slippers provided (isn’t this standard in a 5 star hotel?!). You need a swim cap to use the indoor pool. There are no refreshment services at the outdoor pool. No do not disturb signs for the room door. No coffee or tea facilities in room. Offer no wine experiences (as per website) - don’t be fooled, they have none and no partnerships. You need to arrange them yourself and have to drive yourself everywhere (they are not located close to any) - considering they call themselves a wine and spa hotel … very disappointing! They are clearly understaffed so some bar staff you’ll also notice are plating your dinner too. Small and limited wine menu and very limited restaurant menu (items frequently run out). One-way doors to the balcony by the restaurant (we got locked out and had to knock on the window for another guest to let us back in). The restaurant staff are amazing, our waiter was so attentive and his english was excellent. So too was our check-in and check-out staff. All in all, wouldn’t stay here again. Definitely not a 5* as they advise, more like a 3*. Not bad but wouldn’t recommend.”
