“We're giving this a 5, although we thought there were a few areas for improvement, because we want this magical place to continue to exist. It is located on a private nature reserve in the Daintree Rain Forest. We had cabin 1, which overlooks the sea and the forest. There are two great nature walks, which we took and had so many wonderful experiences. We also went to the pond at 6 a.m. to see about 10 wallabys in the wild after the staff left sweet potatoes for them. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. For the cost of the room, we felt the room could use a refresh. It seemed a bit dated. Also, for a resort of this caliber, the food in the restaurant should be much better. And we hope the management improves the quality of the food. (The restaurant and the bar area have amazing views). Nonetheless, we highly recommend this place.”

“Beautiful resort with a wonderful vibe. The swimming pool is fantastic too. My only criticism was with the way the staff handled the ramifications of cyclone Jasper. We had no power resulting in no hot water, food services or the ability to charge our phones. I understand that everybody was under pressure and in a difficult position, however, the staff completely disregarded and lost interest in their guests and we felt like we were left to fend for ourselves. We noticed an abundance of staff walking around the resort cleaning up the mess, but they gave us zero attention and we felt disregarded. My other issue is the lack of communication between staff members. We would resolve a query or issue with one staff member, but this issue would reappear with the next rostered staff member as the messages were never communicated. We were also offered a refund to checkout early, but they haven't refunded us and keep making excuses. Absolutely pathetic! I'm also very surprised that they don't have a generator like the other resorts in the area.”

“We spent 8 nights at Freestyle very recently. We had a thoroughly positive experience. The service was excellent from the moment Anne warmly greeted us from our shuttle drop-off to her helpful shuttle pick-up. She was at the property and available throughout the day until closing time at 6pm. Jason was away from the property, so we did not get the chance to meet him. We were especially grateful to Anne's great information about all that the area has to offer. Our one bedroom apartment was very comfortable, well kept, and spotless. We enjoyed cooking and preparing meals there often. The kitchen was stocked with all the appliances, pots, pans, bowls, dishware, etc. that we needed. We loved it's proximity to the main street, marina, and 4-mile beach. We did not have a car and could easily walk to all these places within 10 minutes. And, we could get a local and affordable shuttle quickly if we chose not to walk. We can't say enough good things about our stay at Freestyle and would return there in a heartbeat! Anna & Leigh”

“Stayed at Dougies years ago an it was fun had a good time but not this time I stayed there 3 weeks ago, Was so so disappointed, paid for 3 pitches for three campers that were essentially carparks on a dirty patch behind the hostel, It's not acceptable honestly guys, Then my friends an I went into the bar for a few drinks to play pool listen to music etc, It was cut short because of the extremely hostile an rude staff that were off duty. Had our money pushed away and ignored to play pool all night bye the off duty staff we had put songs on to have them instantly changed, Just want to say to Jessie the supposed manager the way you acted an treated paying customers was not professional at all plus hostility directed to the other people was not called for, Sorry had my rant of a review had to do it just was not a good experience will not stay there again thanks,”

“Just read this review and it’s pretty much exactly what I wanted to say. Except it was 4.30am… Kept awake. Almost hopped in the car and drove back to Cairns… Nice & clean private room. Convenient location & close to everything. Staffs are great & understanding. However, the place is full of weird, inconsiderate & noisy guests that makes a lot of noises & gets rowdy till 3:00am. We are sleep deprived & didn’t have a pleasant stay. We know it’s not a 5-star resort, nor a 5-star hotel, but, we cannot comprehend how this establishment let their long term guests rule over the peace of this community. It’s far better to spend a few more dollars somewhere decent, better accommodation that will provide you a satisfactory, pleasant & wonderful holiday.”
