“In the city centre, great location, classic hotel. Rooms are spacious and the bed is comfortable. Not to many courtesy items by default I guess to avoid wastes, however usually you find at least slippers or a vanity set in similar hotels. Usually I prefer a room with a shower instead of a tub. Breakfast is ok. Parking is available at a lower ground and is connected to the hotel through a lift, which makes all very easy.”

“The restaurant was closed, the rooms were clean and spacious, but bare and cheaply furnished. The breakfast was abundant on the sweet side, but it lacked proper bread (only spongy toast). The eggs were blueish and ice cold.”

“Some places are special because of their location. Others because of the people who run it. Very rarely these two things come together to create a magical stay such as that we've just had in Relais Sant'Ambrogio. The beauty of the Val Trebbia, the quietude of the hotel, Paolo's wine and knowledge, and especially Giovanna's charisma and cooking come together in a perfect blend to create the sort of place you never want to leave. Somehow I want to keep this to myself, and make sure no one knows about it, but I realise I am not doing my hosts any favours by this course of action, so I must instead thank Giovanna and Paolo for the best two days of this Italian holiday (AND the best meal, too!)”
