“This time, I traveled from Kansai and stayed for two nights. In the Utsunomiya-Nasu area, check out websites and reviews from various accommodation facilities such as: 1. You can stay with your dog. 2. You can eat with your dog. 3. The food looks delicious. 4. Accommodations and facilities are well-equipped. 5. You can stay alone. I decided to choose it. Where I stayed, the staff's care for dogs and the facilities were better than I expected, and I was able to fully enjoy cottage life. There was also a large dog run, a bathtub with hot spring water, and goods for dogs. Since we were staying for consecutive nights, we had different menus for dinner both times and it was delicious. In order to have a relaxing stay, I thought it would be a good idea to stay for several nights and explore the surrounding area (on the second day, I toured the Nasu area, and after checking out, I visited Nikko Chuzenji Lake and then moved to Lake Yamanaka, so I could use the time in the evening). Since it is located in the villa pension area, there are many turning points, so I used the navigation system as a reference, but I had a hard time getting there.”

“Located not too far from Lake Chuzenji is this small hotel tucked among the snow. Driving is preferred. There are only 16 rooms in the main building. The staff were very attentive and service was top notch. They even assisted us with our luggage all the way and parked our car for us. The highlight of the hotel is of course the open air onsen right in your own room. It was snowing and this made it all the more magical. The room itself was huge and we had modern twin beds and even a rocking chair. The bath and the toilet were separate. Meals were provided and were delish. Very fresh ingredients from the local area. There were 2 more small onsens that guests could use all to themselves without a booking. Just walk in and lock the area after yourself. There were indoor and outdoor baths and again the view was awesome. It was not crowded and we did not have trouble getting to use these public areas all for ourselves. Small areas with sitting and log burning fireplaces to chill and have some complimentary coffee and ice cream were a nice touch. Though pricy the experience was worth it.”

“The building is old, and the location isn't the easiest to get to (though really, it's just a single 40 minute bus ride from the station and then a <5 minute walk), but my mother and I loved this place. They cared so much about making sure we enjoyed our stay, they tried their best (and seemed to enjoy) to communicate with us (they had one staff member, who checked us in, who spoke very good english), and they accommodated our dietary requirements (lacto-vegetarian) with no issues. Looking back on this trip, staying here was one of the highlights.”

“I was looking for a place to stay with my dog and stayed there for one night during fall vacation. It has a retro Showa feel, but it was well-cleaned and I had a comfortable stay. The food is filling and satisfying. For dinner, we had a variety of delicious dishes including kamameshi, meat, and fish. It was nice that the room had an open-air bath, which I could take in whenever I wanted. I went in before dinner. Since it is an open-air bath fed directly by the hot spring source, it rained quite a bit at night, but it had stopped by morning, so I took another bath before breakfast. It has a smoothing effect on your skin at the right temperature. Recently, Japanese-style rooms are my favorite, so I used the only Japanese-style room. I was able to lay out my own futon, so I was free to do whatever I wanted. Fortunately, I had three sets of futons, so I slept on a combination of futons and mattresses, so I didn't get any physical pain. The toilet was nice with a shower. The staff are very cheerful and work efficiently and energetically. The casual conversation was also fun. I was also happy to meet Vanilla, the signboard dog. I was told that the pork fillet steak was freshly made, so I ordered two meals. It was so delicious that it became a snack in no time. This is 300 yen cheaper! Above all, I was surprised that my dog's accommodation was free of charge, and when I asked her why, she kindly said, ``All you need is for your dog to come!'' It's a very nice inn.”
