“Rooms were a reasonable size, clean and met our needs. Food was mediocre but fairly priced. That said, our breakfast was delicious. The facilities for the children were great with soft-play an outdoor park, animals, a swimming pool which were all free if staying. The service wasn't that great on the whole.although the older lady on the bar in the evening was lovely. We felt the lady in charge of the soft-play probably doesn't like children or people in general very much and that there were some quite unenthusiastic younger staff about the bar/reception/waiting. However, on the whole, our needs were met and the kids had a fabulous time.”

“Stayed for a new year party here. Staff were excellent and attentive to people in attendance. Staff seemed to be professional and helpful throughout. Had a dinner and dance event. Drinks were reasonably priced. Food we had was not as good as it could be. Beef was tough to eat. Starter was great. Dessert was unremarkable. The breakfast was very good. We had a DJ for the event who was only ok but we had a good time dancing. The room we had was clean although was in need of a serious update. Bar area was clean and relaxed. There was no quiet space if people wanted to sit out of the main dance area which needs to be rectified. The live singer they had was very good and was a pleasure to listen to and I would have preferred to have danced to her singing. Had a great time with friends and although there are some shortcomings it was a relaxing event to attend.”

“What a gem! The pub is in a beautiful location, and walks a plenty, two or four legged friends. Paul and Stella and of course Bailey, are a credit to the Rockford! Jobs to keep them busy for a while, having inherited recently, but maintaining a lovely environment to stay, and eat. The room we had was nicely appointed, with smart TV, usb stations, tea and coffee, hairdryer and copious amounts of hot running water. It was lovely and clean, and nice quality bedding and towels. Really nice touch in bathroom included a pot with cotton wool balls and buds etc. The breakfast was filling because of the quality products being used from butchers and baker. The menu isn't vast, but covers most tastes and vegan/vegetarian option. But the excellent quality and presentation is lovely! Steak and ale pie, was so nice I had it two nights running! Burgers were a delightful challenge! Things will only get better in their capable hands, and we look forward to our next visit. They also do dinner bed and breakfast deals, so ask, as its nice not to have to trudge out around the lanes for your evening meal!”

“Located in the quiet village centre, just a minute’s drive (or 5 minute walk) off the main drag between Yelverton and Tavistock. Car park at rear, accessible before crossing the bridge next to the pub. Entrances at rear and front. Typical looking old-world village pub with outdoor seating and a few larger tables inside, so ideal for walkers, cyclists etc. First visit (pub in Yelverton gridlocked with cars so here we were). Staff kindly let us in early (chilly and wet weather) to keep warm but we strolled around the attractive village anyway. Sidenote: The other pub was shut, there’s a Spar and a chippy and the river looked splendid after the heavy rain. Community Christmas trees added some cheer. Back to the pub out of the rain: Quiet inside, no music, a few other customers, lower level area closed. Bit tired in the furnishings dept but historic building nonetheless. Toilets so-so. Friendly staff offered a tasting of the cider AND a bonus of the last glassful from the box (it was a Lilley’s still, 6.0% - v good) Beer offer was usual DoomJail so picked the still cider. I could imagine this as a proper beer-led establishment at some point. Probably not the footfall or demographic though. It’s the food that truly shone. Simple, non-pretentious and delicious. Sausage (meaty), mash (buttery), peas (loads) and a proper boat of hot gravy. Mate’s burger, chips and onion rings also well received and everything was cleared. Good portions all served hot and with a friendly smile. I’d be happy to have this as a local. Bravo. We’ll be back!”
