Barranco La Arena 53, Dehesa Baja, 38300 La Orotava, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

“We have followed Haydée restaurant since its opening days and its progression has been impressive. Now that their hard work has finally been rewarded with a Michelin star, the only one in the north of Tenerife, we wanted to put it to the test and enjoy New Year’s Eve with chef Victor Suárez and his team. It certainly didn’t disappoint! Victor’s distinct personality was present in every dish. He combines traditional ingredients and recipes from the Canaries (especially from La Gomera where his family is originally from) with novel and exciting flavours and textures. That evening Victor presented us with a great selection of his signature dishes. The excellent homemade breads were accompanied by a selection of different butters, with a special mention to the gofio-flavoured one, and Caviar from La Gomera, a rare delicacy beautifully presented in a piece of crockery representing the old harbour of Hermigua. It was followed by a trio of appetisers which included a spectacular beef broth and a surprising combination of shrimp and crispy chicken skin. Moving on to the main dishes, it is very difficult to choose which one to talk about, but the surf and turf style Gillardeau Oyster was a great beginning. From here onwards the experience went in crescendo: the scarlet shrimp flan, the smoked eel, the traditional barbilla wheat with horn of plenty mushrooms that merged contrasting textures to enhance its flavour… and finally, the principal fish and meat dishes: a virrey with a spectacular mojo accompaniment which merges the most characteristic flavours of Canarian cuisine, and the amazingly tender cabrito embarrado. The wine we were recommend, Bimbache from El Hierro, was a great choice that truly enhanced the experience. There was still room for desserts: an unexpected “plátano canario” and the most incredible and subtle combination of pumpkin and truffle, so unusual in desserts. And finally, to round up this spectacular evening, the actual New Year celebrations were accompanied with a great selection of artisan turrones and the traditional cotillón and uvas de la suerte to welcome 2024 with the other guests and the entire team of Haydée. We cannot but whole-heartedly recommend Restaurante Haydée with its newly awarded and very much deserved Michelin star! Congratulations to Víctor Suárez and all his team!”

Av. de Papagayo, CENTRO COMERCIAL L59, 35580 Playa Blanca, Las Palmas, Spain

“Doesn't look like a big grand restaurant from outside but the moment you get inside you're made to feel so welcome. The staff are so attentive, nothing is too much trouble. Then the food arrived and it was delicious. We had a great time here and I strongly recommend it. It's a secret little hideaway gem. TIPS: Avocado starter was lovely. Pasta dishes are so good And definitely save space for tiramisu”

esquina con, C. José Franchy Roca, C. Veintinueve de Abril, 9, 35007 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, Spain

“This isn't my usual choice, more "where local eat" type but gave this a go due to good reviews and glad we did. "Fusion" is always a bit pretentious, but from the 3 dishes we shared, hard to criticise. Prawn salad with croutons is nice but nothing to write home about and all uphill from there. Kangaroo tenderloin (recommended by local who was in eating..thank you sir) was cooked to perfection. Medium rare, seared on outside, marinated in teriyaki, melted in mouth, that was a 10! The pork belly dish with avocado, rice, egg etc was also top marks. Pork tasted like it had been cooking for weeks, fell to bits, mixed well with other ingredients, a favourite of my wife's (Thai) tastes. Place was quiet, as we eat early, clean lines, well designed and full view of cooking area. Staff friendly, helpful, happy to explain dishes to us lazy "English only" speakers! Had all that, couple drinks each, under €50. I definitely recommend a visit.... P.S...locals definitely eat here so I'd book a table 7pm onward...”

“Great place. Delicious food and attentive staff with chef coming to check all is fine few times during the course. They even had special Christmas dishes. Although the promised very very very spicy sauce was just very spicy :) Hard to find place (between 2 football stadiums), but definitely worth it.”

“My husband & two friends have just had the most lovely time at this restaurant! Everything was on point! The cocktails are simply delicious & presentation is spot on! The food … just WOW! I definately recommend the grilled pork chop & my friends raved about the prawn starter & lamb main course! Simply exquisite 😋 They even boxed up what I couldn’t eat as I couldn’t bare for it to go in the bin! 😂 Definitely recommend 200%!! 😃”

Centro Comercial San Agustin Calle las Dalias, Locales 82-85, C. las Dalias, 12, 35100 Maspalomas, Las Palmas, Spain

“We found a small, wonderful, french restaurant in San Augustin during our vacation at Gran Canaria. The restaurant is located on the second floor in a shopping centre, but with outside access, which makes the atmosphere not perfect, but still very comfortable. The major upsides are the quality of the food and the outstanding service from the waiters (middle-aged men with a lot of knowledge and an absolute outstanding mindset of service). The visited the restaurant twice, during our week at Gran Canaria, and we were definitely not dissapointed any of these visits. We examined both the fish, meat, and duck alternatives, including some really great desserts, and with the food wine recommendations were absolutely stunning. This is, most certainly, a restaurant that we will return to, the next timme we are at Gran Canaria, and I can fully recommend a visit (you will not be disappointed. I recommend that you make a reservation, because the restaurant was rather busy, both of the times that we visited it.”
