“Finally visited here, and the vibe was great. It was neither too loud nor too crowded. We accidentally sat on the bar side, but the owner and servers were super nice. We tried some sample beers, and the server gave us a free whiskey cake, which was the perfect finish to our meal. “I strolled into San Matteo with my wife on a fall Sunday afternoon and it was the best experience I’ve had here in NYC. We were warmly greeted by the staff and decided to sit at the bar to watch a bit of NFL red zone. Our waiter’s name was Andres and he was PHENOMENAL. He was genuine and kind and knew the whole menu front to back. The espresso was poppin and the food was incredible. It is crazy out of the days I’ve spent here in NYC that the short time I spent at San Matteo was probably my favorite experience. Andres you are the man and keep serving with that smile you have that shines so bright.”

“It was a lovely Sunday summer evening to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather! The service here was excellent, enjoyable conversation, history of the owners and menu highlights. We ordered a starter salad and risotto and we’re so excited it was fully gluten free! What a treat! The salad came and had pink edges on the lettuce and 3 found pieces of Parmesan with mold I picked out. Not wanting to be rude and completely send it back I mentioned it to the waiter when he can by and told me he’d let the kitchen know. I wish he would have brought a new one or comped it. It shouldnt have been served. Not to get too distracted on a small pesky salad, the main was a lemon and shrimp risotto and it was fabulous! Wonderful flavor and texture. To top it off with a gluten free espresso cheesecake was delightful. I would come back here again because of the nice service and great main and dessert, I would just not order the salad.”

Then we sat down and we was the first to be seated at the bar but was the last to be served we started eating and everyone else that was sitting next to us came in after us was done we was one plate behind the other two parties that was right next to us the entire time!! We were seated right away by a very helpful gentleman who took a wonderful picture of us outside the restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was very tasty. Great job.”

“This was perfect for a late dinner in the neighborhood after a show. It has a great atmosphere with a nice open kitchen and the servers were all really nice. The food was all wonderful - traditional Italian with fresh ingredients and well prepared. I started with the rollatiini - sliced eggplant stuffed with ricotta and topped with tomato sauce which was excellent but the star was the pasta with pork cheek, which has a wonderful texture similar to pork neck, and was incredible. I finished with the tiramisu which was one of the best I’ve had in recent memory. I’ll return.”

“This place is an Italian restaurant that is very unassuming. You walk by and your last thought is an Italian restaurant. But the food was really good. It was more authentic and less "olive garden-y" which I really liked. The portion sizes are kinda odd though. If you're going with friends, make sure you ask the server about the serving sizes because some portions are huge and some are tiny. My friend ordered the daily special of the tortellini and it was a decent portion. I ordered the chicken Parm and it was big enough that I was able to give him a nice chunk of my meal. It is a nice place overall.”

“Was really excited to try this place given the strong reviews. The vibe of the restaurant is very nice with the tropical plants. Our waitress was also very helpful. The food was just alright, croquettes were good but the cauliflower purée was quite salty. Our mains - the tile fish and octopus were both well prepared however they were accompanied by chickpea salad and some squash & salsa salad that were both very sour. Maybe it would’ve been better with some basic roasted potatoes or just anything not that tart. Oysters were good. Chicken liver mousse had a weird taste.”

“Tasty Italian Italians food right next to Bryant Park. We went here for dinner on a weeknight and it was very easy to get a last minute reservation, which was very convenient. I like it because it serves classic pasta dishes but also lighter options like salads, that are not just the typical boring salad. This location is also very cute, I’ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. If you like the taste of Nutella, I highly recommend the chocolate hazelnut boudino. It’s sweet and chocolatey without being too heavy. Great to share!”

“My wife and I had a single night in Manhattan recently. As we were staying on 5th Avenue, we decided to make reservations at The Grill as it was an easy walk. Upon entering, we found the staff welcoming and gracious. We were shown to our table in an expeditious manner. We asked to see the Sommelier as we wished to get our wine (2017 Margaux) breathing. Willie came to the table and was very helpful in getting the process started. He also recommended superb cocktails. John our dining Captain came and introduced himself. John is a pro. Terrific! My wife began with the Champagne cocktail. Delicious. I wanted an old fashioned and was talked into the version with The Grill’s signature bourbon. Oh my, was it good. We started with the Avacado Crab Louis prepared at our table. Off the charts delicious. So fresh and plentiful. We then moved into the next course, Pasta a la Presse, again prepared table side. This was the highlight of the evening’s menu. Everything was amazing but this was sinfully delicious. With our ribeye for two we had the mushrooms and steamed spinach. The steak was very good. Not the best that we have had but superb nonetheless. The bread service was equally amazing. My wife is a skilled baker but had to admit that the dinner rolls were better than hers. We finished with the baked Alaska table side…a must. The service was exceptional. We were ‘touched’ by no fewer than 6 associates. We never felt rushed and we took our time and paced ourselves. We plan to head back to Manhattan next Christmastime, we will definitely eat at The Grill again. Well done!”
