Gettysburg Heritage Center

( 16 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

297 Steinwehr Ave, Gettysburg, PA 17325, United States

“This museum is very unique in that it has a lot of interactive exhibits that are different from most places. There are the typical museum displays but then they have other exhibits. There are various “mini” theater experiences as you go through with short videos. They also give you 3d glasses when you enter that can be used all throughout the museum to learn more about what is being interpreted. Then they have a short film that is supplemented with an interactive display throughout the film. Finally, they have an exhibit called The Cellar which is an interactive experience to allow the visitor to see and feel what it might have been like during a battle in the Civil War. It was really fascinating. That all being said, as far as accessibility goes it is mostly accessible. I need a scooter to get around and there were some areas where it was a bit of a challenge. First, the parking is in the back of the building. It was quite a distance to get to the door and the sidewalk was uneven and broken and my scooter got stuck on it. Inside the building is mostly open and the gift shop was a good size. I did have trouble in the theater which was difficult to see where I was going. Overall it was a nice visit with few limitations.”

“We really enjoyed the Gettysburg museum and surrounding exhibits. After going through the indoor museum and exhibits, make sure to take some walks and do the entire driving tour. You become very familiar and oriented with this important event, and you can better relate to the people involved. There was so much to see that we spent an extra half-day to get as much in as possible. It was very interesting and informative, very well done!! We will be back.”

The gentlemen there were so knowledgeable with fun facts; you can really tell they enjoy being there and sharing with the public. The cars tell a story, too! Just a really fun, family-friendly place that is just wonderful. I can't wait to go back!”

4.5
( 16 reviews )
Closed until 09:00 AM

532 N 7th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123, United States

“I had to visit for Halloween. I looked it up first. The house is a mere shell of a building and is not furnished. Only a sketch adorns a wall and that's about it. Still a cool place whether you're a Poe fan or not. One room is set up to the style of a person with means in that time would look like but nothing of Poe's is in the house. 3 stories and a cellar. Very narrow and steep stairs, not for handicap or wheelchairs.”

“Here’s where the famous charges started. The monument is just stunning and a great memorial for the thousands of men lost. There’s a small parking lot at the monument but plenty of parking nearby on the street. Go slow and watch for pedestrians. Enjoy the views and walking around nearby to see other markers and monuments.”

“Amazing experience! I expected to see a sports exhibit on Roberto Clemente but this museum is so much more. Our tour guide Patrick was exceptional at storytelling & showcasing Roberto’s life and humanitarian efforts. At the end of the tour, we had the opportunity to make purchased on clothing and wine. The basement actually hosts a wine tasting room, perfect for renting out for events. We definitely want to go back since there is so much to soak up!”

The Everett Railroad Company
4.7
( 16 reviews )

244 Pullman Dr, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648, United States

“A beautiful train ride that makes a quite dreary season feel a little more like Christmas. Every child got to spend a little time with Santa as he walked through the cars, which were beautifully kept and tastefully decorated, and the crew were all very friendly. If you're looking for a fun, relaxing, and unique experience for not only bringing the kids to see Santa but also for family memories, I'd definitely recommend this train ride.”

Concrete City
4.7
( 8 reviews )

Hanover St, Nanticoke, PA 18634, United States

“Very interesting peice of history!! Very dangerous though! Would not recommend bringing small children into the buildings. Bring a flashlight if you want to see into the basements of the buildings! Obviously a lot of the graffiti is crude but some of it is really interesting. I had to look up what it used to look like and the difference is astounding! If you like to explore abandoned places I would definitely recommend this one!”

Duquesne Incline
4.4
( 16 reviews )

1197 W Carson St, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, United States

“Neat and inexpensive thing to do when in Pittsburgh. Great views of downtown from the top and a little museum with lots of newspaper clippings of the car throughout history. You can take a self-guided tour of the workings of the cables - quite fascinating! Very interesting to learn that this car was opened in 1877 as a way for the workers who lived at the top of the hill to get to the steel mills and factories along the river. A round-trip ride costs just $5 but they do require you to have exact cash to pay, I don’t think they accept card.”

North Museum Of Nature And Science
4.5
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

400 College Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603, United States

“Really fun museum! Very hands-on for kids, as well. The museum has 3 levels to it, and a small gift shop on the main floor. The live animals area was awesome, and they even brought out one of the large monitor lizards to feed and pet! Went during the dinosaur exhibit, which was cool, but was hoping for more interactive stuff. Overall, this museum is definitely worth checking out!”
