Schwefelloch 1 07318 Saalfeld, Schwefelloch 1, 07318 Schmiedefeld, Germany

“The mine tour was great. A jacket and good shoes (it's damp) is recommended. We also got a cape so we don't get dirty. We were able to pay for entry and drinks at the kiosk with credit card. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and inexpensive, card payment was not possible.”

Veste Heldburg
4.4
( 16 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

Burgstraße 1, 98663 Heldburg, Germany

“This was a most engaging visit. You can see the castle as you approach for miles before. Entrance was a quite reasonable €7, for an adult. The exhibits were very interesting and showed many different castle in various styles. I'd love to know where they found the modern video of craftsmen building a castle using traditional tools and techniques; fascinating. The only reason this gets 4 stars and not 5 is that the info panels are only in German. The upside is that there is good 4G in most areas and Google translate works!”

Schloss Schwarzburg, Zeughaus
4.5
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 11:00 AM

Schloßstraße 1a, 07427 Schwarzburg, Germany

“I have to admit the view onto the ensemble from the distance is more impressive than being directly there. The Zeughaus (armoury) has some fascinating exhibits, but sadly one can often not get close enough to admire them due to security (and photos are not allowed, which doesn't help). It is nevertheless worth a visit. The "Schloss" building is in a dire state and due to ongoing building works (if one can call it that) it is off-limits (not that I would want to get near the ruin-state anyway). The "Kaisersaal" and the building is worth going, especially if you are lucky - as I was - to have en extremely knowledgable person there who is happy to become your unofficial guide through the building. Overall, it is an interesting complex and its history is fascinating, but considering how many other castles/palaces there are in the region, it will never become my favourite (apart from the views from it and onto it). Car parking: well, it appears that the town council has realised there is money to be made from tourism...so charge you for it :-( not a very sensible move in my view”

Thüringer Kloßmuseum Heichelheim

OT Heichelheim DE, Heichelheimer Hauptstraße 3, 99439 Ettersburg, Germany

“Ok”

Apolda Avantgarde Art Gallery
4.5
( 8 reviews )

Bahnhofstraße 42, 99510 Apolda, Germany

“Nice little museum. Currently with lithographs by Chagall. Not for everyone but well done. And you can always take a look... an impressive series of exhibitions in recent years, despite the short history. (You shouldn't take photos inside, so just a blurry one...) And then across the street to Café Ella. You will love the cakes...!!! And if you don't know what to do in Apolda or don't go to the museum, then you go because of the cakes...! ;-)”

Erfurt City Hall
4.3
( 8 reviews )

Fischmarkt 1, 99084 Erfurt, Germany

“Please be aware, this city is at the end of the world. You won't find any Uber here, not even the German Free Now. I mean, if you are able to get a mobile connection, to use any app at all ... You know it's Germany, the world's most advanced 3rd world country ;)”

City Museum + Art Collection Jena
4.3
( 8 reviews )
Closed until 10:00 AM

Markt 7, 07743 Jena, Germany

“Even there is no English audio guide I enjoyed my time there. Its all about Jena's story through the years. I also really liked the Gerd Sonntag paintings and glass sculptures. You don't need to speak German to enjoy art! There's also a small coffee room where you can have a nice coffee and a sweet served by a really nice and friendly lady .”
