“A very spontaneous trip on New Years Day! There unfortunately wasn't any train rides running today but, as there was such a big party of us, the driver insisted! We all had a fantastic afternoon. All of the staff /volunteers were absolutely brilliant. Friendly and swift service at the bar for coffees and beers. Perfect for stocking up with snacks for a railway walk too! Not our usual activity but we thoroughly enjoyed our time.”

“First visit here. Excellent experience from the start. Although we had booked in for one o'clock but never got there until nearly two as we were held up due to traffic but they allowed us the extra time. Nice helpful and friendly staff especially the lady that was on reception. Good value on food and drinks with a large selection. I will definitely take my grandchildren there again. Worth five stars”

“This is a lovely 600 year old ruined castle bang in the middle of nowhere. At the present time there is (February 2024) scaffolding and metal fencing surrounding the castle but we were informed that work is commencing in spring 2024. Still,a nice peaceful way to spend 30 minutes and it's free too.”

“What a great couple of hours with a great friend! Chris was so informative and knowledgeable. The ultimate tour was fab, we had a tour of the Distillery and then tasted 6 whiskies with guidance. I am not a Whisky lover but i found it really good and got a liking for the less smoky ones. So, why only 4 stars? Well, i liked Chris but he could have been more enthusiastic. Just a minor aspect as his knowledge was amazing. The restaurant was also amazing, great atmosphere, great food, great service. You will be tempted by the shop!”

“Wasn't quite what I was expecting , once down the staircase into the mine you are in a round cavern ( at a guess 15 foot diameter ) with half a dozen entrances leading off into mining areas , you can crawl about 6 foot into these and then a barred gate stops you entering further but you can see inside because of the lighting . you have to wear a hard hat before climbing down the steps , these have a wheel tightening system so no chin strap ( a genius invention 👍 ) The gift shop is ok and the small information area was very informative . You will probably only spend an hour here but the price reflects that . There are a few picnic tables next to the gift shop so would be a great place for a picnic and plenty of grass area for kids to run around . I would still recommend a visit if you're in the area as the history of the mines was very interesting 👍”
