“Not enough good can be said about Shearer's. The staff are excellent, always friendly, and quick to help. With a place that offers vegan food as an option, there is always a fear that ordering something like vegan chicken, you may get a real bird. This was never an issue across the multiple times over a few days that we ordered. Drinks are well priced, and food was cheaper than expected. We also went to watch the Newcastle v Aston Villa match in the bar. The Newcastle fans were all pleasant. It wasn't hard to get through the crowd to get to the bar, order drinks, and make it back to the table on the opposite side of the room. The food on offer during match days is well priced and easy to get to. We will definitely be going back for food, drinks, and to watch more matches if we can't get tickets to the match (or its an away game).”

“Perhaps you need to be a local to fully appreciate this place. Since it was my first visit I wasn't aware it's not like almost every other restaurant. There is no service at the tables. After waiting a while I walked up to the bar and asked how to order as I didn't know I couldn't order from the table. The QR code on the table doesn't work either. I ordered the meat pizza and potato skins. The potatoes were soft and greasy and the pizza would best be described as a reheated frozen box pizza. I'm guessing if you want anything else or another drink you need to walk to the bar again as nobody returned to the table.”

“Saw this place and decided to pay a visit . Great location and layout, dog friendly which is always a +plus. Welcomed by staff and seated promptly. Chi I’ve of food is wonderful , opting for the Tapas offer ( 1400-1700hrs , 4 Tapas , 2 glasses of wine or beer for £24.99- excellent value for money ). Tapas was delicious and freshly prepared, portions were great , all served by very friendly and welcoming staff. A very pleasant afternoon , and well Worth a visit .”

“For a Friday night in town, taking the kids to eat here was okay and could be booked in advance. The pub was busy, with what appeared to be a pub quiz going on, and our reserved table wasn't ready, as people had taken over it. The staff quickly got the table ready, but it was over 40 minutes before food was brought to our table. The staff were polite and welcoming, but without music, the overall atmosphere was of loud chatter. The heat near the bar was unbearable and we were pleased to be near the windows where it was cooler. Still, the pub is cosy, despite needing a few repairs to chairs. We ordered a range of dishes and the food was generally good, especially the 'award winning' (according to the menu) steak and ale pie. The burger was tasty and the kids meals were good, but limited. The disappointment was the accompanying veg with the pie (I've never seen such a small amount of mash on a plate) and the small volume of sides with the burger left the plate looking empty (see photos).”

“I have been a member for about 1 month now and have been down here 3-4 times and I have to say that it is a great place to chill out if you like playing pool and snooker as well as enjoying a pint at the same time. The bar staff are excellent and well mannered. There is a snooker table downstairs and one upstairs along with American 9 ball tables as well as a mix of English 8 ball tables as well. They also have a menu if you require something to eat and is not too pricey as well. There is also a modern jukebox that is touchscreen and plays all the latest music on there too, upstairs there is also a bar as well as the chance to play darts as they have a match room board for those who like playing darts. Would recommend anyone to go here for a night out much to do and enjoy.”

“Went for a "snack meal" .... and came away replete +++. The staff were fantastic.. Ordered various chicken wings, fries etc... Delivered very hot... lovely marinades. Slaw wasn't on the menu separately, but hats off.. the chef came out of the kitchen and sorted us. 👌 can't wait to return.. Superb value for money.”
