“Extremely warm and great hospitality! It’s the second time we stayed in Furukawa, this time with a family of seven people in two rooms. Very convenient location with a great view already overseeing the canal, walkable distance to the photo spot and the shopping streets, also the fish market. We came here just the night before my son’s birthday and we did not make any special booking on that. The staff just happened to find out it’s his birthday and offered to have a photo taking for us at dinner. Without expecting much, the hotel staffs arranged a table mat paper printed with happy birthday and my son’s name even with the years of birthday, then the also gave him a card with a birthday goodie bag. Not only we got the family picture taken and printed out in a birthday card, they offered also a birthday cake at the end of the dinner. Super sweet of the hotel staff and incredibly generous of them. The rooms were as always very cozy and nice, while the meals are all made of local Hokkaido produce. Cannot ask for me and will definitely come back!! Thank you so much!!”

“Very disappointing stay here at Borou Noguchi Ryokan. EXPENSIVE, NO MEALS, DIRTY BATH, OUTDATED ROOM. Firstly, there were no meals offered for us, even though we are hotel guests and booked our stay in advance. When we arrived, the staff told us that meals reservation only, but by the time we checked in, everything was fully booked. What’s the point of paying $590 USD for a “luxury” ryokan if there is no food. Hotel should give notice to guests prior to check in regarding meal reservation. To be honest, having meals in ryokan is expected. There should at least be another option so all guests can enjoy their stay. Also, the room is very outdated, and not well maintained. The room has stains in the paper window shades, stains on the wood, and rusting in the bathroom window sill. In addition, the pillows for sleeping have ZERO filling (see photo). It is completely flat. Lastly, the private onsen is extremely dirty. There is GREEN slimy fungus (is it mold?) growing in the restroom. Extremely DISGUSTING. This should be unacceptable for 4 stars hotel at this price! Moreover, the room has some kind of smell because of this. Please save your money and stay elsewhere.”

“This is a pretty good hotel, located at the entrance to the foot bath. The exquisite entrance method is very special. We booked a luxury suite. The interior was spacious and clean, and we felt very comfortable. The service is relatively average. The room attendant did not introduce the rooms or hotel facilities. They have two Chinese employees who do not come to deal with Chinese guests. I don't know how they manage it. However, the most disappointing thing is the food and beverage. The banquet cuisine is not very good, the hairy crab is very fishy, and the desserts are all Western-style. I don’t understand the meaning of a hundred Western-style desserts in Japanese cuisine. Anyway, we lost our appetite after eating half of it.”

“Loved this place! We arrived late after a multiple-day hike in the Daisetsuzan national park. The hotel was fully booked, so we stayed in the campsite (20 minutes walk from the hotel) and visited the onsen - definitely one of the best I have seen in Japan. Service was top-notch, they even let us use the shuttle service to get to the railway station. My warmest recommendations!”

But rooms are very dated and you can’t cool room since the hotel has switched all air cons to heat only as of today 29 September - our room is 26 degrees and hard to sleep. Also pool staff need to try and be more helpful to guests rather than behaving like municipal pool attendants.”

“I could not fault my trip to Club Med Sahoro. The staff and management genuinely want the guests to have their best time. Their hospitality never felt anything but exceptional. The ski team were all wonderful, with Ella giving me a great tip that connected with me. There was something, for everyone. If you can't find something to enjoy for yourself here, then you must be very hard to please. The food was fantastic, the entertainment was great. The entire team at Club Med Sahoro were infectious with their desire to have a good time.”

“Stayed for 2 nights in winter, it was -10 degrees and we were so grateful for the wonderful onsen. There’s a good mix of public and private, indoor and outdoor. Just few mins walk to the ropeway. Staff were all very polite, professional and always impeccably dressed. First night French dinner was ok, second night Japanese dinner were amazing. Also enjoyed the breakfast spread, and you have to try their signature pudding. Love it! Thank you for an amazing stay :)”

“Perhaps the nicest hotel I've ever been to! My husband and I had a traditional Japanese room with a private onsen. I've never taken so many baths in one day before, and if we weren't using the bath, we were lying on the tatami floors enjoying the complimentary drinks and snacks they provided. Each morning we had an incredible prepared breakfast along with the buffet, spent the rest of the day either relaxing in the room or hiking around the mountains just up the road from the hotel, and then we'd come back to a private multi-course dinner. After dinner we'd come back to the room cleaned and prepared with futons for us. Truly an incredible experience thanks to this hotel!”

The receptionist didn’t offer/mention towel rentals, so I was stranded in the changing area trying to dry myself off with my own clothes so I could go out to rent the towels for my family and myself. Korean bathhouses always provided them, so I didn’t think to ask. Luckily everything ended up drying off quickly. All of that could have been avoided had the guy cared to offer them.”

“Stayed 1 night on November 29 in Japanese-Style Room 👍🏽Pros: - Free shuttle bus to and for Sapporo station - A variety of complimentary tea bags in the lobby - Public bath is awesome! There are 7 kinds of baths. My favorite one is the open bath, where I bathed when it was snowing. What a extraordinary experience. - Dinner and breakfast are buffet style. Many options and food is yum. - Some reviews mentioned that the facilities/room seemed old, but I found the vintage Japanese-Style room comfortable and great. I really enjoyed the stay! - There are 2 massage chairs next to public bath. 👎🏽Cons: - Not many staffs speak English so it's a bit difficult to communicate. It took a while for the front desk staff to find our bookings. - Private bath is not worth it. It's a waste of money. - Needs to put up signs about the etiquette of using public bath. When I took a shower in the public bath, the Korean group all showered while standing and kept splashing. They chatted loudly and shouted at each other. One of them even kicked water in the bath......”

Because of his bad English, I had to use translation. After the explanation, trying to come back to my room, I heard some murmuring. I can’t speak but can understand some Japanese, so I asked back what he was talking to me. Then he said “You have a loud voice.” in Japanese. I admit my voice is little bit loud, but that’s from my medical problem in hearing. He has no idea about that, but he should have been considerate to all types of people. It’s still big hurt to me. The baddest hotel of my trip.”

“Definitely tired old hotel that was probably built during the bubble era, and it’s reflected by how quiet the city is besides the fishing and seafood industry. The staff were definitely helpful, but everything else is just old: the lift, the rooms… my room’s aircon wasn’t working at all, and I had to open the window to prevent myself from suffocating. But driving around, I honestly don’t know how much better the other hotels are. Location wise, it’s conveniently located to many attractions. At night, the place gets incredibly dark and quiet, but you can explore around the area for places to eat. But speaking as a foreigner, especially one whose command is poor, you may not always be welcomed”

“Overall a MAGICAL location for an onsen hotel and just wonderful staff, great service and just overall lovely experience. I will stay here in the future for more than one night. The whole experience was just lovely. The outdoor onsen was just amazing in the -10 degree air and snow blowing sideways! It was quite the experience and I love that they have snow covered wooden chairs you can sit in and cool off and enjoy the view and cool off in the freezing air. I love the feeling when your hair freezes solid then you get in a warm bath. The outdoor bath is warm but not hot which I think is because the natural hotspring is not that hot. It is nice though as you don't really overheat as you can in other onsen pools. They do have a hot pool inside so I found myself doing a routine of sitting in the outside pool to relax, then going to the inside pool to super heat up, then going to the outdoor cold pool which is REALLY COLD and super refreshing. It was super snowy the night we went there but it cleared up in the morning which was great because we could see the amazing view of the lake and distant mountains when eating breakfast and in the onsen. We went to the onsen for the evening and morning. Just lovely. The food was pretty good. The room is fantasic and has such an old world charm. OH! And they do have a secret natural onsen down by the water. ;-) We stayed her on our last night in Hokkaido before we flew out at 2:30pm to Osaka. I give you the time of flight because the checkout time of 10am works perfectly for driving to CTS, dropping off the rental car, taking the shuttle to the airport, and checking-in for our flight with time to spare. The snowy drive around the lake and in the woods to the airport was just magical. Great end to this part of our trip.”
